    Elvy's Art Stuff

Hi all, it's been a long time since I stepped into the CA family as work has kept me away. I hope that by starting a new art thread, I'll be motivated by everyone to keep doing what I love no matter how busy I am.

To kick things off - a WIP portrait I'm working on with a photo reference. And it took me a loooong time, 2hrs...

    People on the Move 1

I always wondered how people could carry a sketchbook around and sketch everyday, anywhere, anytime. For years, I thought to myself, "where on earth do I have the time to do that?!"

But in a sudden burst of enthusiasm, I decided to give it a shot. So I got a tiny pocket sketchbook about 2 months ago and decided to try sketching everyday. I carried it with me everywhere with a small 2b pencil and guess what, I can see how it's addictive.

It's so fun! I don't have much time to sit down and draw and the best time is to do it is on the commute, during lunch time/dinner time at a public cafe and while waiting around for friends, at a bus stop, at the side of a road etc etc.

Here are some pages I particularly like - all of them are done from life, some done in less than a minute because people were walking and moving around ALOT, others no more than 5 minutes. I'll share more in the next few updates.

    But ANYWAY:

To anyone who is a naysayer to carrying a sketchbook - do it. You might just grow to love it.

I have alot more to improve on and if you have any tips or thoughts, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks for the lovely comment ^^

Nice start here And don't be silly, I knew straight away that was good old Frodo! I think its probably just the semi-afro hair that makes him somewhat unfamiliar But portraits are really annoying like that, the slightest difference makes the person look a little off :< But it all comes in time and practise!

And oooh, you make me want to try carrying a sketchbook I'm scared that I'll get caught though and everyone will think I'm a stalker creep ;<

    Fun stuff

    有難う、Krel-さん。:)

A few pages from my sketchbook.

    1) Some concepts. Toying with ideas of superheroes
    2) Something wrong with bad boy's punching arm/fist there
    3) Posemaniac's 60sec quick drawing practice.

Nothing much today except a sketch on the train.

I was standing and drawing, hence the perspective. (Not sure if I got that right) Too bad the girl got up and left before I got a chance to finish drawing her...

Hey nice start! Sketching everyday is great practice and great fun. I think on those 60 second gesture drawings you should try to draw the entire pose quickly, like have a basic indication down in 5 seconds, then refine it the rest of the time. Don't let your pencil leave the page! The goal of these quick drawings is to capture the whole pose, so try not to focus on details or accurately copying every body part.

    Lego Men

Just got myself a small box of acrylics, a few paintbrushes and an acrylic paper pad from the bookstore to try out.

I took a good 3 hrs on the lego guy on the right. And a good 2 hours on the 2nd guy... I did a very basic pencil sketch but in the end I didn't follow it seeing that it wasn't accurate at all!

    It's still a WIP

But I'm pretty happy with my first attempt. Painting is fun! But tiring...

    Sorry for the bad photos.

    Sketches, studies, WIP

it's tough to sketch quickly, so here are some of my practices - mostly when I'm on my way to work

And one WIP - This is a picture of a character from my gaming group. Not entirely sure how to use colour pencils but just used them like I would on digital. Although making a mistake is less forgiving hahah...

    Sketch & Sculpey

Scanner broke and have been out of the country. But here's a long overdue update in this SB.

Saw some Sculpey at the store and decided to give it a try. Made this little ninja for my friend! That's him in the oven, about to be baked!
