Round #183 It Has The Traits Of A Flower

    Topic:
#183 It Has The Traits Of A Flower

In this colorful round, we'll be designing creatures based on the traits of the coolest flower you can find. Not necessarily going for a plant creature, but something that is based on certain attributes of a flower of your choosing. Look at the colors, shapes, patterns and use them in the creation of your animal. You can put up a pic of the flower if you want so that we can see what you're going for, or you can wait until the very end and show us what a great job you did with your subject. Up to you...Hoping to see some things I've never seen before in this one Ladies and Gents. Now, bloom sha-ka-laka!

    Deadline:
    Wednesday July 14th, 2010.

    Finals go here: http://="http://www.conceptart.org/f...d.php?t=191727

    C.O.W. # 183_It Has The Traits Of A Flower_WIPs Thread

Not done this before, going to give this a try. These are my first attempts, first one is a typical slimy villain who uses his tendrils to crawl forward and jiggles his orchid at his prey, and the other is a more reptilian fellow on the creeper side.

I haven't done a Cow before so if I'm being unoriginal pleaseplease let me know.
    update:
Progress, I can't decide between the two, they're completely different, may be I'll do both. Forgot to put my inspiration.
The inspiration for creature design here can be endless, pretty amazing stuff created by mother nature.
    Last addition, my creeper plant.

porcupine: looks good so far. i´m looking forward to how it looks when u blocked in all colors and start adding detail to the lizard.
rgeorge: you´re not unoriginal. that´s what this round is all about. combining the flower to a creature and your creatures seem to do that.
Suneater: eheh that was one of my favourite flowers when i was a kid. nice to see you picking up this concept.

Awesome topic, it immediately made me think of this little guy: C.O.W. # 183_It Has The Traits Of A Flower_WIPs Thread

Here are a few quick sketches I did last night, I'll do more later as I'm not happy with either yet and not even sure if either of those will be the flower I use.

    good start guys!!
I don't know if I'll have the time to finish something properly this week but still wanted to sketch a bit. awesome topic!
though I should read a bit more carefully. bamboo is probably NOT a flower .
aww well just getting the ideas down.

GoldenSerpent, yours look reeally cool already. very strong designs.

rgeorge, hehe I really like the left one. so cute.

and really cute one porcupine. I might go for a more mammal-looking creature as mine looks a bit similar. not intended though .
but be careful with the head, it looks like the perspective is still a bit off.

SunEater, I like your idea! looking forward to seeing the whole creature.

looking forward to where you all are going with this!

monotony: You actually might be able to work something out with the bamboo idea since bamboo do flower, I saw a documentary about it, some crazy stuff, every 48 years all the bamboo blooms and fruits at once and causes a HUGE outbreak of rats, it's referred to as Mautam. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mautam
believe it or not that's actually a short cycle, some bamboo species apparently flower only every 130 YEARS!

    Some nice sketches there already.
