"Must-Haves" for Art Toolkit?
-glue (so one can create anything out of the fusion of two random objects)
-sharpies (dunno why, but I am partial to a good marker)
-utility knife (you never know when you may have to opportunity to make permanent etches....just don't vandalize )
-couple cans of complimentary color spray paint (again, not to vandalize)
I'd love to add some things to this travel kit! I think my list may grow too big to carry everything all at once, so I may have to split the travel bag into two groups and just alternate days carrying them.
Any thoughts or contributions?

I think there is very few "must haves" beyond paper and some kind of drawing tool. Something that allows you to lay in a wash of tone quickly, whether it's watercolor, a grey marker, or something else is also nice.
I guess on my list of "nice to haves" I'd include a digital camera with lots of space. Also, if you are fond of walking/hiking to get to your art destination, it's really nice to carry a collapsible umbrella and a bottle of fresh water. If you can find a really lightweight camping stool (the folding kind), that can come in handy too.

Please elaborate as to where I can make a "permanent etching" without inciting the wrath of the law?

Waterproof carrying capacity for your sketching stuff-- out here in Seattle it's not unusual to get hit with a sudden downpour.
I usually have a couple good quality heavier gauge plastic shopping bags that I carry in my book bag to protect my bigger SBs that won't fit in a standard book bag. [Spraying the crap out of your book bag with ScotchGuard also helps protect your stuff from sudden rain.]
