Art of RATS! - an ongoing RPG project (updated - Oct 17th '12)

Hi guys! We have launched a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo! -> indiegogo.com/rats
I would heartily appreciate you just visiting the site, looking around. If you feel inclined to help us out with a few bucks or linking to us to help spread the word, that would just be all the awesomer. Thanks!
The campaign closes in a week, on October 31th 2012 !

    --

I'll be posting illustrations as I do them, that are a part of an RPG book called RATS!, written by Uri Kurlianchik.
It's about the true masters of our world - rats! as the species awaken miraculously into purposeful consciousness

Please comment if you see fit to, I would really appreciate it. The critique and suggestions I receive here help a lot.
    Thanks in advance :]

    Hey cool pic
Oh my God, man! Daumier! What a worthy aspiration...
I definitely should've looked at his work before doing the image, that would have given me some major mojo.
I will definitely keep it in mind when I go back to this.
    Thanks!

    RATS!! UNITE!!!!

For testing the style for the book, Uri and I picked from my sketches to make a full page illustration. If it goes in the book I might extend the space in the middle to insert a quote or chapter name.
Preaching Rat based on http://urigrey.com/cleric.jpg by Jamie.

I was contemplating if I should add more shadows to the foreground (the rats closer to the stage are in the fog, so less shadows there) and if I should add more rats in between to create a more crowded feeling.
I'll be happy to hear your thoughts on that
    Or on anything else!

    Desert Rats

    Character type illustration.
There will be more humor in future characters, so I allowed myself to give these guys a mysterious feeling. In the Dark Vs. Humor equation, this leans towards the Dark.
Also you might notice this looks differently from the first illustration. At the moment the direction is to use the first style for chapters, things like that, and the second style for more illustrative purposes, like characters.
    What do you think?

Hi Croovman -I like your use of rats. As mentioned, many has used them like this, but yours is still real rats.
About the first image. I wouldadd more shadow and contrast to the rats in the foreground and less in towards the stage. It will add more athospheric perspective. Used a lot ok, but it works Looking forward to see more

    LOLrats

    Character type illustration.

They put the LOL before all.
    And they're completely nuts.

I kinda meant it to look like the main light source comes from a computer screen, which probably doesn't come through, and am not really sure about the colors\shading either, SO...
Crits\comments (on anything) are especially welcomed on this one, thank you!

Changed it a bit. Mainly added a computer mouse and upped the contrast. Which version do you think is better?
My main concern was whether the computer monitor screen light was recognizable as the main light source in this picture.
Edit: Okay, the mouse is backwards. Oops. Will probably fix later.

Umm... it's a rat... in a turtle shell... that wants to hug you.
One of probably many future mutation types. I'm trying a different style with these.

Very cool rats, especially the barbarian! +5 kitten armor FTW.
I like better the images with a contour, you make good clear lines lines which feel a bit missing from the other images. Maybe even you don't ink the contour should be marked clearly, e.g. in the TurleRat picture the contour feels a bit shaky to me.

That's a good idea. I wanted to separate the two types of illustration (Character type, and Mutation type) by experimenting with a contourless style. It's not perfect yet, but I'm kind of improving it along the way (and maybe you can tell me if there is an improvement along the way), so I'll definitely take your comment into consideration when I do the next one and maybe improve the old ones at some point.
Thanks! Kitten armor's good for morale

Interesting idea. I think the third image has the highest level of quality and polish looking at it from an illustration perspective.

Horror rats. They sleep a lot, but when they do they embody the nightmares of the dream world.

This was a challenge. Really, any comment\critic is welcome, thanks guys :]
