Despite the 'Race bending" I was hoping it would be good. Or at least decent...but man...

Damn! you beat me to it. Yeah saw it opening night as well. Had a few people yell "it's Aang!" ever time his name was pronounced "Ong". Shymalan made the mistake that I thought he was going to, which was trying to cram 8 hours worth of material into a 2 hour movie.

The movie jumped really rapidly between scenes, and there was absolutely no character development. There is a point near the end (Spoiler alert) where the Princess sacrifices herself and Sokka is really broken up about it, but they appeared together on screen for a grand totally of maybe 3 minutes IF that, it's as if we're supposed to believe that they really cared for each other simply because they blatantly said they did mid-conversation at one point earlier on. Fan of the series or not, it's just bad writing, that movie was like a 2 hour rick roll

Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die

Zwarriror, you cant be serious about the casting being good. The casting was awful. Aang was a homely little monkey that I could barely stand looking at, Katara was terrible in presence, emotion, and acting, Slumdog Prince was bad, The guy from the Daily Show as a villain!?! That alone nuked the fridge for me. Appa, well...the one minute that you see Appa, looked like a deleted scene from Where the Wild Things are, the Firelord couldnt have looked any softer unless he was wearing a teadybear costume, No Master Roku (outside of the dragon). The story was so condensed that Cliffsnotes would be saying "Whoa, whoa..... slow down buddy." The M. Night Shamalangdingdong twist in this one was that the whole movie sucked. Usually you have to wait to the end to find out it sucked. I didnt have much faith that it would be good, but I was hoping for at least some decent martial arts, as the cartoon is full of accurate depictions of kung fu, but even that was painfully terrible. On a scale of 5 stars, five being the best one being the worst I give it three black holes.

Here's another fan video reaction (you may want to fast forward 2mins).

If it wasn't such a bad economy and at risk of being thrown out of the theater, I would have taken a lot of friends to see this movie just to heckle the crap out of it. The problem would be that as soon as you make a joke about one scene another scene is already happening unfortunately

    LOL

I didnt mind the actors, though I agree they were not true to their cartoon versions at all (even besides appearance.) But I dont think its the actors fault, at most, they each probably had like 5 minutes worth of lines in the entire movie. The horrible writing is more to blame.

Aang wasn't as cheery and naive as in the Cartoon, and Sokka... where'd his humor go? Shyamalan completely missed the tone and charm of the show

The M. Night Shamalangdingdong twist in this one was that the whole movie sucked.
That has to be it. The movie was just too blatantly bad. Anyone could have written a much better script. The movie seems like it was written for 10 yr olds, by a 10yr old. (yet even 10yr olds hate it so nvm)

LOL momo was randomly flying in different scenes. mistook it for a random bird several times. I liked the way it looked though, Appa looked freaky.

I feel bad for anyone who shaved their heads to draw an arrow, or anyone who dressed up as any character.

    Epic failure

I can't even begin to comprehend how a movie can be worse than Dragonball: Evolution, which The Last Airbender is according to reviews. I might go see the movie just to find out how M. Night does it. It seriously cannot be as bad as Dragonball: Evolution.

The way you guys are coming about this seems like this movie was inspired by Egoraptor's Metal Gear Awesome, but for the wrong reasons.

    More fun vids

You know I think I have to say watching people complain about the 3d makes me mad. I mean you make people pay more and there's no effin' difference between 2d and 3d. Refund please.

Hey, if they market this right, this could be the new "Rocky Horror Picture Show" for kids! A movie you are allowed to make fun of out loud in a theater.

Third book, remember the scene where he teaches the Fire Tribe to dance? "Let's do the Firelord Dance!"

I really find it funny now that they never mentioned any (sans one mention of Katara) character names in the trailer. Now I see why lol.

Well, in reality, and as of 2010, there's no such thing as 3D or a 2D plane.

3D movie would have to be on a 3D Plane.

    Avatar vs The Last Airbender

Shyamalan could take some lessons from Cameron.

Cameron took a plain story and made it extraordinary and involving.

Shyamalan took an extraordinary and involving story and made it terrible.

    What, it is awful? awww

Cool, there is awkward cosplay and really angry funny fans? NICE

Edit: and awesomley funny reviews too? I think these are a billion times more entertaining than the movie

I saved myself some money and aggravation after hearing some of the horrid reviews. I'm a fan of the cartoon to the extent that I NEVER fast fowarded the intro when I watched the DVD with my wife. It's amazing that the story of Ang as the Last Airbender was alreay done and it was already awesome yet somehow the movie could suck so bad. Dude just follow the script as closely as you can and you have an instant hit. Yet someone who wrote "Unbreakable", which is easily in my top 5 movies ever, FUCKED it up so bad. I dunno...maybe hire the guys who wrote the cartoon script in the first place to sum it up in 3 hours or less might've been the way to go.

If you like the cartoon btw - they released an Art book
    http://amzn.com/1595825045

I guess that's the silver lining to the cloud because they were trying to mass market again. I got the re-packaged with the extras Box set for Book 1 (which is book 1 box set with a sample of the art book and documentary dvd). I didn't have the set before so it's all good.

I love bad films. Not because I never see them but because they force people to come up with ever more severe (and thus entertaining and quotable) descriptions for the depths they plummet to.

Whatever entertainment bad films may lack at face value, they more than make up in the voiced opinions of their victims.

rumour is there's a new Avatar cartoon in the works, and the avatar would be from the water bender tribe. Forget the name, heard it a while ago

Yeah I heard rumors before too. I like how they left some thing open too which gave good possibilities for story arcs and spin offs.

Aang being the last Airbender, he's got some populating to do. :o

    Oh btw!

zwarrior bumping this because it's relevant to your post about another Avatar, if you look at the artbook they make mention of a character not used in the first series and that they hope to bring back. I'm quite sure it makes sense and lends into the next one being a Water Bender.

The artbook is fantastic, I usually zip through pages but I've been savoring this book like a fine wine, reading all the thought behind the processes of the cartoon.

You just have to keep your willpower strong though, the first pages has a foreward by Shyamalan saying how the creators of the show were his best friends lol... (he's also mentioned on the back of the book too).

The title of the spin-off you are looking for is "The Legend of Korra".

    Here's an article on it:

    http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2010/...e-new-spinoff/

It sounds very promising, and I am quite excited by it, but I have a small, strange unsettling feeling about it.
