I think it worked quite well. Maybe the mid tones are a bit on the dark side, but it's given her a lot more life than the first one, whose head is floating above her shoulders.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

Well, yes. The photo ref was probably pretty heavily edited, so perhaps the values aren't very natural... But I mostly copied it because I liked the well defined muscles in it. And yeah, I can see how it looks that way with the head on the other one.

Some more work on the space ship painting...

And I also started reworking an old picture... Because I still kind of like it but it was too old to fit in my portfolio at this point.

I like the space ship painting. She looks like a normal woman, so don't go and give her massive boobs.

Another update on the space ship captain... I'm feeling mostly done with it at this point, but I got some crits from Donato that I'm gonna try to implement.

    Hi matey

Love the girl and the spaceships that is really very good, but the last one with the magic 1980's shoulder pads of flight needs a rework I think, sorry mate but they just look weird! which is ok if thats what you were going for but if not you might want to think again. As usual this is just my opinion on the concept so far and I am quite prepared to make a groveling appology if I am talking crap (which happens more often than not!).

all the best to you and yours as usual.

Thanks. Well, I guess I was going for something Dragonball-ish. Wanted to make him look like he was straight out of Flash Gordon or something.

Struggling with being productive this last month. Life, or rather lack thereof, gets in the way... But I guess I've gotten a few things done.

I like the forest studies and you're getting to grips with texture a lot better these days.

Soo... And update every other/third month isn't THAT bad is it... ? But perhaps I'll have some more time to hang around here now. Nothing really beats good old CA after all.

I was commissioned by a friend to paint a fantasy world map, so here's where I'm at with that

Great studies. One thing I notice is that you seem to use small brush strokes for detail. This means you are getting soft and uneven edges when they should be sharp. The main example is the skin on the female studies, it also makes the skin look blotchy. I would block out the general shape with the local colour add shadows and then airbrush the lighter highlight colours on.

    Thank you

Something with that painting has been bothering me from the get go. But I don't really know why either. And some others at least seem to like it, so I figured I was perhaps just imagining things. Now that I think about it, maybe it's the perspective that feels wonky...

You've got a great pose and expression started there, but try to think about the overall composition and where you want the focus to be. I'd knock back the tree and even the reeds in the forefront.
