Question Planning an art vacation in Austin

Summary: Need help in finding artistic things to do in Austin, TX (In the United state). Also getting friends from there to hang out with would very helpful. Fun things to do also appreciated

    ------

So, coming next October I will be visiting Austin for the Austin GDC (Game Development conference) which lasts from 5 - 8 Oct. After that, I have until 30 Oct free (yearly vacation).

I came from a country where there arent much art activities going on. I longed to have people to draw with, drawing lessons to attend and maybe get a mentor or something. Seeing that I have 3 weeks, I'm trying to advance my art as much as possible, so I'm declaring this as an Art Vacation !

What I'm looking for is friends, places for artists to hang in (I dont know whats out-there since I haven't seen any locally), maybe mentors (I'm welling to pay too), workshops, life drawing lessons/gatherings ... Anything you could share really. Heck, if there is any good BBQ Wings place, let me know!

Thank you for you time, and have a nice day!
(Oh, and if you are afraid that I'd be a mad person, you can ask me anything you want here or in the #conceptart irc channel).

The state capital is an impressive building. They have painting portraits of all the governors - even George Bush. I remember his has him just sitting behind a desk, trying to pretend he's working.

There is the AMoA, Blanton, SoCo, the Drag, Campus, Zilker Park, and a festival (at any given moment) just to start with. There's an on-going life-drawing group you can meet up with via meetup.com (AVAA), they meet three or four times a week (bunch of older folks). There's also a group of animators and game artist that get together on Sundays and Mondays, I think. You can get info on them from AVAA. Ummm.....yeah. There's more but that's a good start.

Excellent. Looking good so far. Meetup is a great suggestion, I could attend other things when there is no art activity on a certain day (Though sitting in a coffee shop all day drawing sounds good too).
AVAA also looks great, I think I should contact someone there for more details.

Thanks you all for the help!

If anyone got more info, please share

Hey, thanks for those links as well!

I just moved to Austin for the year, so I'm trying to find some locations/people to draw and paint en plein air with.
