Sam Spratt's Finished Works (Updated with Neil Patrick Harris)
A brief introduction, my name is Sam Spratt, I'm a graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design. I'm still in illustrator infancy so to speak but things are moving really fast. I had my work featured in the Society of Illustrator's Annual this year along with American Illustration 29. I do all kinds of work from commissioned portraits, advertising illustrations, to medical illustrations (Just recently got published in the American Association of Cancer Research Journal), and more. I'm currently working with an Art Director from Euro RSCG on some advertising illustrations and juggling several other freelance projects.
I work digitally and traditionally interchangeably, No real preference I just like pouring myself into the details. I've always had a passion for game design/conceptual art as well and some of that trickles into my portfolio now and then as personal passion projects. When so much of my work is done from references either from life or photos as inspiration, I find the realm of creature and character design to be freeing because I can just start from scratch entirely from my head and not need to try to make something have a semblance to something else.

These are great. I especially like the House MD one. Really good stuff.

Thanks, yea I had a lot of fun with the House one. I did a Pencil sketch on recycled paper then scanned it in and worked in Painter 11.
I updated with a piece of fan concept art I'm doing for Halo ODST as it's getting to the 80% done area or so.

Don't mind me asking, are these all photoshop or painter? I can't figure it out. For some I'm sure they are PS but not for all. Thx! Dr.House is my favorite.

The creatures were done in Photoshop only and House was done in Painter, the rest of them are a combination of Photoshop and Painter. I usually start in Photoshop as it tends to be a better optimized program so workflow is very speedy moving towards a 70% point or so, then I switch to painter to get some of the more textural finishes.

Added a portrait I just of Neil Patrick Harris aka Barney Stinson. Tried to treat this more like a traditional oil painting from process to finish and had a lot of fun doing it in the process. Naturally I used reference to caricature the facial structure, but most everything else was from the imagination. I struggled a bit with the glass of scotch so I found a few reference pictures for assistance and pushed forward.
