    Megaten's sketchbook

After over a year and a half of lurking I've finally worked up the courage to start a sketchbook.

From the newspaper. The girls head is about a third to big. I always seem to make the head to big or small iwhen I start the drawing from it.

Only one page today. Worrying about exam results possibly coming out tonight make me unproductive.

Thanks I'm off for the summer from university so I'm trying to do at least two pages a day. Apologies for the marks in the second and third image, they got creased when I was putting them in the scanner.

I think I'm going to stop doing hands from the book these a from for a while, kinda feeling burnt out doing them

Some dude on the art discussion was told to draw a load of peoples noses so I decided to do some myself.

<insert generic good job and keep up the good work post here>

Also, neat work on the feet. What kind of reference did you use from them? Are they from photos, someone else's feet, your own feet, or any combination of the above?

There from a book called Drawing Hands and Feet by Giovanni Civardi.

Trying to get used to using a tablet. have absolutely no clue how to use Photoshop. Any tips or links would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of work here, great to see that you're so motivated. As for criitques, I think you should be more aware and/or stress form a bit more. Get comfortable thinking in simple shapes and in 3-Dimensions, should really help you with your figure drawing. Keep at it!

Looking good here, keep it up this speed and you'll be a pro in no time!Try to draw with cleaner lines though, and as cgaddict suggested, think in 3D,once you get it,you won't forget it!

Thanks a bunch for the replies. I'm gonna be gone from Thursday to Monday to a music festival but once I get back I'm gonna really work on adding more depth.

Started new sketchbook. It's cheap, crappy thin pages and a strange almost waxy texture on it's pages. It's perfect for studies.

    Practicing drawing lines and stuff.

Seems like you've got a handle on where you need work, and what to do about it. Noticed you complaining about getting a likeness down, so try this: get a picture and zoom right in/cover up part of the picture until you've got just a small part - half an eye, or a nostril or somesuch. When you get that close in things are just abstract shapes and it's easier to draw what you see rather than what you think you "should" see. Then maybe do a bunch of these from around about the same area plus another drawing where you stitch them togther.
    Hope that helps.

    I got me a sketchbook...
Slow, yet hopefully steady, improvement. This way
