    World Cup 2010 rants

Hope something similar wasn't already posted and/or this will be a shot into the dark, but I thought a thread about the current World Cup would be a good idea. There should be a few soccer fans around here, no? I mean, I am not the craziest soccer fan, but the World Cup is always an exciting event in general.
You can post any thoughts, cheer-ons/bash talk or game prognoses here!

I am rooting for Germany, Japan and South Korea Except for Japan, they all played really well, especially Germany hehe...
And I hate the Vuvuzela beeswarm.

Throw in your 2 cents! Or not...

Those stupid horns are doing my nut in.

    Spain to win I reckon.
I would have gone with Argentina but Maradonna is a bit of a loony, he'll probably decide to play Tevez in goal, Messi at CB or something..

Although, never bet against ze Germans..I realise Australia aren't the best team ever (hey, you can't be good at all the sports )but Germany were playing through them like they weren't even there..To be fair to the Aussies though, that was barely a yellow card, far less a straight red..bad enough drawing Germany without your best player getting sent off for nothing.. :/

    Also, nice goalkeeping Engerland

Edit: yay! I win at predictions.

Argentina had a pretty weak mid-field, at least, for the first game, but I gotta give it to the Nigerian goalkeeper. Either way I have to go with Argentina homeland and all.

Argentina should have won that about 5 nil, the Nigerian goalie was defying physics at several points.

Not really a soccer fan, but I'm brazilian, so it's simply impossible to not be in the middle of the craze.

Personally I don't think our team will make it to the finals. My technical knowledge is very shallow, but I feel we don't have a very strong team. Tomorrow is the great debut, we'll see.

Traditionally I also root for Germany, which is also my guess for the winner.

First they planned on kicking off the World Cup with a live animal sacrifice, now those freakin cheap plastic horns. Cheap plastic, not traditional hand carved wood or anything, just a cheap toy to provide annoyance. What's even worse, they don't care about anyone else enjoying the game in peace.

Vuvuzelas are AWESOME! What's so hard about enjoying something we're not used to? I'd prefer a happy swarm of bees to the mindless ogre-singing of european fans any day!

No, vuvuzelas are shit. I can tell you because I live here and there are not many minutes of the day you don't hear one - turns the city into a beehive. It's just mindless and really loud noise. Should've banned them.

Anyway, hope Spain take it - I'm a Barcelona fan and Spain play in almost the same way. Emphasis on beautiful football. I'm also tipping Netherlands to go really far this time round.

I'm rooting for my own country, The Netherlands. I'm a good patriot!

I usually don't care for football either, but the world (and European) cup is an exception, and I love the whole craze that comes with it. And I'm with Algen - I like the vuvuzela's.

Lol! I think Maradonna looks like a mafia boss! That fact alone makes me dig the team I am waiting for him to run onto the field and take things into his own feet at some point... ;P
And Messi's playing is out of this world anyway!
Also curious about Portugal, they can be reckoned with I guess.
I wonder if North Korea had any fans being allowed to leave the country to cheer them on. I heard someone make a joke about how chinese folks were sent to pose as their fans ._.
On some TV's you have an option to turn down the 300 Hz frequency which filters out the Vuvuzelas.

I had a dream that France would win. Make of that what you will. More likely than England. Green, our goalie, probably paid 50K a week, practiced all his life and can't pick up a ball trickling towards him at 5 mph. Embarrassing.

I feel so sorry for Green, don't think he'll be able to return to England after that.

I used to like the World Cup but now I cant wait for to be finished. All the constant advertising here is really annoying.

Funny thing, I haven't paid attention to the vuvuzelas until I read this thread. Now that I am watching, they are basically being used for the whole match. Good thing that on my local transmission, the commentary is louder than the background noise.

So far, I have enjoyed some games, and hope some teams start playing better. Argentina was good on the first half of the match, but then it kinda cool down. Looking forward for Brasil's "Jogo Bonito" later on today.

An for those who probably had watched already or not, this one is one of the most awesome commercials for these World Cup.

I'm a huge football fan. I grew up watching Liverpool in the Kop, (its why Im 'exiled red') and I was amongst the first in line to get season tickets for Toronto FC, when they formed four years ago.

Club football is where its at. I'm not big on national teams, and the nationalism/patriotism thing that goes with it, so Im just supporting Gerrard's team right now.

Once they go out on penalties, I'll be following Torres' team.

I could care less about the world cup... or sports in general, actually, but I thought some may be humored by this:

Noooooooooooooo! You nearly had two guys sent off, showed superior football skills and beat my team. I will not forget.

Did I ever mention I don't actually like football - rugby is more of a man's game.
