Alex Tooth - Book of Frog, July 1st

Thought I'd start a new sketchbook! Got stuff on my webspace now so pesky photobucket doesn't delete stuff.

Some stuff from the last couple of months since my last SB died - yep most of it sucks, maybe you guys can give some tips!

    weekly challenge on ifx warmachine

    Challenge entry, something odd,

Complete fail attempt at a character on a white background lol. Was a kind of commission but i didn't charge cos its so bad - a dnd Tiefling, probably doesn't look like one but she wanted it like this.

I drew some horns to practice.

Some crappy doodles, pissing about, trying out the new brushes in CS5, I think they could be ok, not sure if ill use em much.

    Degas study using those brushes!

    Thing

Dark queen idea, I did the drawing but the painting was shiiiiet. I might start it again cos i kinda liked the idea, failed at the painting part alas!

Decided to update the road home pic, I removed all those silly creatures and added a bit of texture, changed the colours and shizzle! looking a bit empty now but i prefer it.

    Some arms from photo refs

Some fast faces, photo ref, actually did these like a month ago!

    Couple from imagination

    Some more from magazine

    Some messy hogarth practice

    PHoto

    Some rough character idea, meh

    Sargent portrait

Photo study, could have spent longer i guess :s

today's 1hr challenge, 3 enviros, tough challenge, need to learn some good custom brushes for this stuff!

Still life of old toy, u probably know this guy, maybe!

wooot~ Alex!! Glad you made a new sketchbook. Love the dark queen piece, the lighting and everything works well together. i've never used irfanview, but my guess is that it's an image viewing program used for slide show purposes and such?

Keep up the studies buddy, i'll be watching you... again kekeke...

    Thanks guys!

Teapo - Hey, good to see you mate! Thanks for the comment =) Yeah irfanview is a free slideshow and u can choose how long pic display etc, good thing.
Polybuilder- Hi, thanks a lot man
Fetsch - Hello good Sir, thanks for dropping by, hopefully we can kick each others asses good this year!
    Capital G- thanks a lot!!
Eidenet - Hey good to see you mate. Yeah colours is hard, you're getting there man, the photo studies look amazing, hopefully you can achieve the same in personal work!
Ste - thanks for dropping by matey, keep rocking!
    PixelCheetah - Hi, thanks a lot =)
Exi- good to see you on ca, and thx for your challenges hehe!
Kingkostas - Heyyyyy man, good to see you, thanks for the comment
Vatteh - thanks! study some of the old masters if you want a good line lesson!

Update- Working through the Hogarth dynamic figure book, really interesting reading it, think I've learnt a lot already. Still struggling to remember muscles, maybe I should just learn the basic ones! I think literally I gotta draw figures every day of the year if any of it's to sink in properly. Do not take any breaks if you're learning anatomy ppl!!

Ok, slavedriver Exili, had the crazy idea of drawing 1000 heads this month, of course I can't turn down a friendly challenge! But yeah that's 67 a day til July.

So here's my first batch, look crap but hopefully when 1000 is up I will progress. I already feel more confident, though the first ones were so hard. I am using a 2min slideshow for each face.

    1000face challenge 1-69

Did some extra in marker, after Sargents.

The super fabulous daily 1hour challenge continues!

    Sunday - 2photos

    Monday - I didn't choose this one!

    Tuesday - 2 Sargent sketches

nice updates bro! 1000 head sketches?! wow, thats a big one. good to see that youve got a solid chunk taken out of it. also, those hogarth studies are really nicely done man. your observation is improving greatly, and you have a good eye for subtle outlying contours on the figure. i think theres some room for improvement in your line quality, it still seems a bit sparatic, and unconnected at times, but then again with the sheer amount of work your putting out, im surprised your able to bring them up to this quality. glad your back in my sights, thought i lost ya for a minute there buddy! keep working hard man!

Hey Nicky!! Thanks man. Oh I haven't really learnt lines much, I just mess about, guess, and feel what I think is a good balance. It's something I'd like to practice more. Do you know any good Artists to look at for sweet lines? Thx!

    1hour daily challenge battles on,

    Wednesday, 4 figures, clothed, lines

    Thursday 3x 20min enviros

Some more enviro studies - these were just to whittle down my brush collection and see which out of the multitude were actually useful lol. Now I got like 40 brushes instead of 200.
