Spectacular shading on those still lifes! Good luck with the logo, that sounds neat. I find your fire guy's pose a bit confusing, it looks like the main action is the kick but then I think his hand would be going the other way. Is he trying to punch while he kicks?

Vertical Thanks dawg. And actually, with common muay thai kicks the arm points in line with the same side leg while the opposite arm protects the face. Doin MMA has it's perks

you most certainly are improving! I really like the digital portrait that you made! Very nice muscles studies however You still need to work on your gestures. I still get a sense of stiffness. If you could work on that and apply your knowledge of muscles, I know for sure that your work will be more expressive. Keep up the studies!

yogeshj25 Thanks, and you're definitely right. Gestures and poses are my weakest points, that's why I'm doin those for the rest of the night!

Here's my Teen Challenge submittion. I have to re-design a video game character, so I chose a pokemon of course

forrest~ i'm gonna critique you hard so watch out
first of all, the challenge is to redesign the video game char,
    I draw with crayons!
you didn't really do that, but rather 'made a realistic version of it' liek what rapoza has done with the TMNT characters
you have time man, think it through
    redesign it!
also on image making side of things..
you have time to make a DOPE illustration, why choose such a dull pose? this creature could be fucking scary and in your face! the gradient bg is boring, as is the drop shadows
you need to establish a better light source, you have him with a front on light source, thats quite inconsistent
change it to something angled, backlit or wahtever! have fun with it
also your rendering too soon, same with all you drawings - sketch man! drawing isnt about rendering everything, it's about gesture, feeling, emotion, having fun and all taht shit
look at the pros like, Cpt Obivious
he doesnt render eveyrthing out, it wastes time
show this as a 'redesign' to whoever made pokemon for their latest game, they won't appreciate this, and they'd want variants, make something new man!
also your colors are suuuper dull, get reference!!
also, dont read this and say, yeah yeah yeah i already know all this. sure you do, but APPLY THIS SHIT MAN- you will improve

Nice start on the last one...I did a little paintover though to show a few things.

I changed the pose to be in perspective. Before the positioning of the legs were not in perspective and looked somewhat odd. I just put them in a basic standing pose for now (I know it loses some of the action of the pose like this, but I wanted to just fix it for now, you can play with the positioning more). I am admittedly not very skilled in animal anatomy, but I thought that the front legs looked somewhat detached and misplaced from the body, so tried to reposition them too.

Anyhow, the main thing I wanted to mention was the focus and lighting of the piece. You rendered everything equally on it. It is better to show more contrast in one area and render it more in order to set a focal point. I made the focal point his head, so increased to lighting on it. I also made the fire on the closest foot more saturated and brighter. The farther elements I blurred a bit and glazed the background grey lightly over so they receded a bit and were not as "in your face". The smoke from his back is great for subordinating the spikes on his back/side and kind of covering them up, since their very sharp edges drew a bit too much attention.

Lastly I added in some of the lighting created by the fires. Fire is a light source, and will therefore cast an orange light on nearby objects such as his underside and the ground.

Hope all this helps! Good luck with TC!

Andrew Sonea Also thanks for the critiqueing. I do have a problem with adding detail throughout the whole of the image and not having a focus point. I'll try and work on that, thanks

    ayoo man.

Stuff's looking good, especially the orange still life. Somethings throwing me off from a lot of the digitals though. A lot of the colors seem like you just turned up/down the brightness for the shadows and highlights, instead of picking a new color. Might just be me though.

On the last piece, the design is coool but the pose is stiff. Why is one leg opened up when the others/rest of the body are all stationary? Keep pushing it man!

skMOP Sup, Idk why it looks that way to you with the colors. I did adjust the colors of the orange early early on in the digital, but then used the color picker from then on. About the elk, I really don't know, it's just how I imagined it ha

Been doin a lot of portraits of friends lately and I can really see a difference in portraits I did a couple months ago and the ones I do now. Also, I finished the elk. I'm not really putting up any studys because it's too time consuming and I'm a lazy man.

As I've looked through your sketchbook I can definitely tell you have improved a great deal. : )
Your most recent still life's are great, still need to work on your portraits maybe ask somebody to sit for you because frankly they all look like they are copied from a photograph. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Keep up the great work though!

there is definitely a huge improvement, mostly on the digital pieces
hand-drawn stuff, thats more dificult imo, it will take much longer to learn,
but working on both mediums is cool you are gonna feed what you learn in digital into analogic and viceversa
anyway those life studies on post #225 are certainly amazing

    You like crits?

RE: Deadpool... remember that as the face turns back into space, it will naturally get darker... so that highlight on the right edge of his face should get a bit darker near the edge and blend a bit more into the background.

I have however started a small shop on Cafepress.com so I can sell some t-shirt designs (hopefully). T-shirt designing has always been a fun idea I've wanted to do so I'm glad I can finally try it.

Finished the CD cover, I also did a little thing for a Homebrew MMORPG being made (Psithyroi). I'm now working on an angel as a present for my cousin and I'm drawing a charcoal drawing of one of the photos from Scott Eaton's photos, but unfortunately my camera is crapping out on me and I'm not able to take WIP pics of it.
