well then it's a shitty early comic book cover, with no theme at all, just a sketch dump. At least we agree in the fact that my stuff sucks

    Haha two pages!

First off, Andres333: I still think your stuff is amazing, that's my two cents.

And here's what I've gotten done so far on the drawing. I'll probably work on it some more later. The hands are giving me some trouble, but on the other hand, I've just figured out what I'm going to do with the background. This is gonna be titled "The ferryman is dead" - as in Charon, and She's a soul escaping the lake of fire/Fields of Asphodel. I just realized that I was mixing religions in my head. Anyways here it is.

I want to be able to finish that one, the one below this, and one other over my 5 day thanksgiving break. Might be asking a lot of myself but I need work to show to the admissions people from RISD and MICA who are coming the week we get back:

This is my first painting with my new Cintiq!
I realize that I was just a well off with my graphire4 but this has been a dream of mine for the last 3 years. I'm glad I learned to paint digitally with the Graphire4, It really helped my creativity and adaptability.

    Anyways heres my painting!

Crit hard guys, I want to get better, and I'm not very good at painting people.

Hey thanks for the stopping by my SB! You have some very good sketches right here!
I especially like the girl piece you're working for your AP class

Anyways, a couple of mistakes with your self-portrait there. I'm no expert, but it seems that the eye is too big. Also, the chin looks like it's sticking out too much.. I think you should try to make the right (our right) cheek a bit chubbier (notice it has a curvature when it meets with the chin). And the neck shadow is way too dark, but I guess you already noticed that heh.. Keep it up!

@LuckyCharm: Thanks for the suggestion. I know about my portrait, I really need to change the whole bottom half of my face, it sticks out rather than going back towards my neck. And experience doesn't matter with people, you look at them every day, you know when it looks wrong.

Here's another quick study, half hour maybe, 45 minutes tops
Not quite finished, just the face left, I'll finish that tomorrow

I'm really happy with the colors, i took a lot of time in getting them right (or as close as possible)
    Please crit
Think ill go play snake some more

    Thanks,
    Pete

I'm really digging those colors, however the shirt is too white. Try not to use full whites in your pic unless you're aiming for an over-exposed effect (like a camera's flash or something). Also, a little suggestion, before painting your pic, paint the canvas a calming brown or cream like color. It's better for your eyes in the long run

ven-: yea it was $2400 through Apple, which had the shortest shipping delay advertised, although it turned into two months. And I've been working for two years to buy this.

LuckyCharm: the picture I was working from was over exposed, but thanks for the tip about the background I never really thought about that too much before.

I got bored and decided to finish this sketch before becomes a permanent resident of my 'unfinished' folder. I'm not entirely happy with the eyes but I think his mouth turned out better than I expected.

    Crit welcome

    Thanks
    Pete

Just a quick 30 minute anatomy sketch
Everything from the neck down is good, I'm not happy with the face at all though. I should probably work at a higher resolution. I stopped so I would stop zooming in and going into detail, maybe I'll just have to resist the urge.

    Oh well...
Here it is, crit welcome as always

    Thanks,
    Pete

Hey Taroan - thanks for the compliments. Your drawing ability is coming along nicely. When painting, it's great that you lay in a general local skintone/value at the beginning. Instead of blocking in the highlight or lighter values first, try starting with the middle range values, then work the darks, and finally the lights. Lighter values come last, because they are closer to the eye.

    Hope that makes sense.

Finally! A portrait that actually resembles the person I was painting!

Not completely satisfied with this one, but its a significant improvement.
    Here it is.

    Crit welcome!

    Thanks

Been a while, let me fill you in:
I've turned all my paperwork in for Eagle Scout. Huge relief to have all that done.
I've decided I am applying to RISD, Ohio State, MICA, U of MD, U of Delaware, and DCAD for college.
    Can't believe I turn 18 on Sunday!
Cannot wait for Halo 4! I know it could ruin the series but I want to play it nonetheless.
And here's what I've been working on.

One tip I have is to look at the negative spaces as much as the positive ones.
You have improved a lot, just keep doing what you're doing.

As artists, we have to learn to see.
