    So... An artist?

    Hi there.
I'm a new artist, I love to draw in photoshop with my lame tablet, modeling 3D in my brother's 3D Studio Max and
    I am currently studying anatomy.
Sometimes I just sit and think about my future, since I love drawing and video games, I think I could be a concept artist, or maybe a 3D/2D game designer!
but the thing is... is it needed? If I really study art to the bone over time, and do good drawings, will it pay out in the end? Do people really need concept art?

This thread is really theoretic but I guess it pretty much reflects my question.

It does sound a bit stupid... But I want to get a job being an artist!

    *sorry for my english.

Yes they do. The game and movie industries combined are worth about 15 billion. They are just a small part of concept art. But if you are doing it for the money you probably won't get far or make a lot of money in the field.

i agree if you are not doing because you love it you will one day in the future wake up thinking you have wasted your time, if you want money become an investment banker or something. there are no guarantees in art

its time to knuckle down and really lick boot!

Hehe, you have answered my question. BUT, I might have asked it wrong.
I love art, not for the money and not for the babes.
I always knew I want to do something in my life that involves it and I wanted to combine
video games, maybe movies and art. I don't really care about the money.
    But thanks for the answer!

    Regards,
    Dean.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation as you. I was talking about it to one of my aunts this weekend, and she told me "the stuff you love pays the most".

It does pay the most, but not in a way most people think. Money is nowhere near as important as happiness and it is imperative that you spend your time on this planet being happy and doing things that make you happy. Of course, making art and making money will make many of the people on this forum very happy people.

When it was asked: is art needed? I didn't think about the game and movie industry as such but I thought about humans needing art in an evolutionary context. We require mental stimulation and although the world would keep turning with out art, I think we'd all be very bored creatures if art, entertainment and music didn't exist... probably a lot more violent too.

SO yes, the games and movie industry will need people like you becuase the mass population of the world needs stuff to keep itself entertained.

They're always needed, especially since you will have you're own style that you will have to sell.
And if you're not hired for a job then you can still create art and sell through galleries so don't ever give up on it. Your art is something no one else can create.
