That's good. The government stopped being stupid for once.

Keep that champagne on ice, it still has to get through the senate.

    Fuck yeah!

I feel like the Senate is less full of populist crazies than the House because senators, due to the length of their term. So hopefully it should be easy.

Besides, what an unnecessary decree to begin with.

Well when it was made, it was back when people were more fearful. Now that's gone, it can be repealed.

As far as the Senate and House being less crazy, one decision doesn't make them not crazy. Even crazy people have moments of sanity

Unnecessary for sure, but now that it has run such a long course I wonder what the consequences will be for people that are openly gay in the military...I'm recalling a certain heart-wrenching Full Metal Jacket scene...

That might be good though. Root out some of the psychotics that join the military just to hurt people.

Does Senate passage mean this poor gal gets her job back?

From what I understand, the attitude towards homosexuality was not as fearful in for the first 150 years or so (though be damned if you attempted to be OPENLY homosexual) and then those damn Victorians struck (granted, they were pretty fascinated with homosexuality, too).

Actually, queer history really interests me, and I want to find out more about it. Thanks for the inspiration!

To be fair, when it was first decreed, Don't Ask Don't Tell was a step forward for gay rights from the previous policy of actively trying to determine soldiers sexual orientation and discharging them if they were outed. A painfully small step forward, but a step forward none the less.
