How does one receive payment from overseas clients?

I've tried using search to look for answers and didn't find any, so here goes:

I'm trying to start freelancing, but all the potential work/clients I can find are overseas. The biggest problem seems to be receiving payment; I live in a country where paypal has very limited functions (cannot receive and transfer money to an actual bank account, just use it for credit card purchases). Other similar companies with money transferring services are also unavailable in my country.

Is it just a matter of sending a cheque to my home address? Or are there other ways?

Sorry if it's been asked before and if this isn't the right place to ask. Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Have you tried money transfers? I myself haven't tried them yet but if your country/place has Western Union, I think you can have your clients transfer through them.

Check the prices on western union. They are SERIOUSLY expensive!

Western Union agents can be found here, but yeah after looking at the fees they are kind of expensive. Though, if it's cheaper than a cashier's cheque/bank draft then that's the only feasible option right now.

most of the time I leave it up to the clients how they pay, and more often than not they'll just post a cheque.

Do cheques work overseas? Never been sure about that, though I've heard it can take a long time to clear.

Hey man, just go to common bank to bank transfer, it works well, fees are small, and your client should cover that btw.
