    Trying to concenquat here

So I finally pulled my guts together and am starting a Sketchbook. LOL.

I am right now trying to move more into the digital painting area so I would like some critique and maybe some tips/techniques would be awesome!

    Info on me... hmmm
I'm 24, I've been drawing since I've been 10, I started using photoshop 6-8 years ago for blending graphics, and then moved to comic style coloring.
I have a tiny little wacom tablet intuos 3 and I use stock for reference.

    Thanks in advance.

Pretty good for a first timer, but I think you could get better with practice.

Here is a new one I made this afternoon. Not quite pleased with it, doesn't look as painted as I wanted it to be...
I am having a monitor issue that is nerving me...I see horizental stripes movng up on my screen. I already updated the driver for my screen .... any ideas what it may be?

Anyho, here is the Ian Somerhalder CG.
(Old image removed, was too big, replaced in below with smaller updted pic.)

For that one, the eyes are way too small.

My advice is to flip all of the drawings that you have posted here; you may be very surprised, looking back at them.

If at first you do not succeed, try, try again.

^ Thanks, I edited it. Does it look better now?

I just read about flipping your art and I am trying to get a hang of it, just like saving a .psd file every 5 minutes.. Hopefully I can manage to do that. LOL

Here are some older sketches on paper and a new digi piece I did.

Thumbnails... please click. ( I need to learn to resize sktches before I upload anywhere!

Ok, most of the images are nice and ok to certain extent, but the first image, the fairy, the thing that catches the eye is the pelvis part, the front looks really like the back side. The second image is very cool, the best shown so far. Keep up practicing, no rest! :-)

sharea don't like it, rock the casbah

    Time for an update.
out of darkness wip - this is a vampire, that I wanted to do a wall behind and have it all dark, then I added that pattern and now I dunno.
I used 3 different reference images for the body.. to see if the pose worked and where to put shadow. I think it may be too blue.
Speedpaint fae - something I did an hour ago
    haydenwants - a promise I made.... don't ask
necromancer - for the weeks challenge. I am totally proud of that one. LOL

Things that annoy me lately, my legs look flat and my noses seem to big LOL

    *salutes* Thank you!
here is some stuff out of my sketchbook.
ahhh I have thing for long necks when not using reference... someone spank it out of me. LOL

used reference,by senshistock.deviantart.com to be precise.

used a screencap for ref, but nothing for the hands.

    posemaniacs.com ref.

This next one is older, but I still feel I should share it. Tho he has tiny hands, he can never eat a whopper...

and here are some wip's, some I have finished, others I never will finish as I have already started new ones.

I am here to spunk out the long neck issue from you.
Great batch of drawings, paintings, the first two drawings
are my favorite, the dragons a bit more exactly, they look real epic.
Otherwise, I like your style, I like much more your pencil
drawings than your digitals, but you are an ever improver,
so I guess everything will fall to its right place. Keep on
doing what you are doing. Cheers.

    Hello there.

You have some lovely men and gals up here. My advice though, is to put the digital drawings away for a bit and focus upon perfecting your form and whatnot first through pencil. Read Andrew Loomis, Read Bridgeman, Vilppu. Work on proportions too, as I also see some issues with that.

Anyways, good luck! Keep it up.

    Thank you!
Here is something from last week, for an contest entry,

Once upon a time, lived a Fairy in an enchanted forest,
Loved by all creatures for her helpful spirit dearest.
The fairy was fragile, gentle and beautiful.
In those woods lived a Forest Witch,
    Old, mean and unmerciful.
When she learned, every creature who seek help went to the Fae,
The old witch realized in order to gain, she had to slay.
When she watched the young Fae glisten in doing well,
She knew, death was not enough, she needed to burn in hell.

She cursed the Fae with wings of Steel,
So every flutter she would feel,
For metal is a manmade thing,
And enchanted beings it will sting.

Everyone she touched, laid healing hands upon, got burned.
All the creatures ran from her, everywhere she turned.
Left alone, in the dark and in pain,
The witch had achieved what she tried to gain.
The Fairy left the woods in agony and fear,
For the cries in nightmares she remained to hear.

After walking days and nights, she laid down to rest.
When she awoke, a man attired in trousers, shoes and a vest,
In a offering manner, held out his hand.
Oh the Fairy cried, Don’t touch me Sire, you can’t!
    My skin is blistering,
    My touch bears suffering.
So please good sir, let me be, let me lie,
Rest upon this cold rock till I die.

His heart warmed as she looked into his soul, as he looked into her eyes.
Softly wrapped her in his cloak and lifted her up, against her cries.
Carried her to his castle, cared for her wound, scar and blister,
With the sparkle of her eyes, bend over and kissed her.
‘But how, this touch should have been fatal?’
‘I am a mortal, no harm can do me metal’.

Sword in hand, she wished for her wings to be cut off total,
So the heavy burden of metal wings was lifted, leaving her a mortal.
He vowed to love her even more and so the knot of marriage was tied,
And they lived happily until they died.
EDIT, here is one I finished today, took me 5 months and still not perfect, but I draw the line here, or else I will lose it.It's a tattoo commission for a friend, I will just let the artists take it from there to put it on skin.

I studied pictures for all of these here, cept for the 'maiden Morlene pic, which I am so not happy with, but it's a good conceptual start for my character sheets.

Hey hey, good to see you've started a sketchbook, I can already see improvements.

Some prity sound advice from other folks here, doing basic studies will def help you improve further. I think you would benifit most from studing perspective and proportions and also your lighting and values. I didnt realise until recently myself how important these things are until I reflected on my own work.
So yeah, in a nut shell, draw and paint basic stuff from life and try to capture that lighting and perspective, and also study anatomy and how to construct form for further improvement. Kinda boring stuff I know but it becomes addictive after a while and it will improve your drawing and painting greatly

Hope this helps, can't wait to see your progress.
Oh, and also some inspiring sketchbooks if you havnt seen them already-

Hey nice sketchbook, as someone already said, you should work with some fundamentals, that will surely make your entire artwork become better.

It seems that you know how to work with color and figures, but definitely getting some anatomy studies will tighten up what you already draw
