Good to see you're sticking with the leg studies!
Are they from reference? some of them like a little like you've just drawing them instead of really looking, which is hard sometimes but working hard all the time isn't easy, but the more one does the sooner one might get what they are trying to accomplish.
I would to see you study some anatomy, bones and muscles and also look into the structure of the legs, the 3d forms of the legs. something like Kevin Chen's stuff.
Keep at it you seem to be building some momentum! *thumbs up*!

Comrades! It is good to be seeing you.

Black Spot: It's always good to hear someone appreciates my horrid humour, other wise I'd just have to hang my head in shame. xD ANyways, thank you so much for the kind words

Zeich: Mmmmm I love dem watercolours. Really ought to paint more often, considering time is no longer an obsticle. Cheers, mate!

Bruce: The leg studies are actually fun. Too fun. Only the numbered ones are reffed. I'm certainly not going to count my rushed gesture things. I was thinking I ought to get back into anatomy studies too. I can look at a leg and know I've forgoten where the hip bones lie and how the knees/lower legs work. I still have those leg things you linked me bookmarked so hopefully I'll get round to another batch today.

So, drawing Gavats on the boat like a bamf. No reff, obviously, since there were no goat people readily available. THE CAMERA MAKES HER LOOK LIKE SHE HAS TINY, TINY EYES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW/WHY. Though, that said, they are on the small side irl too. Just not that small.

DISREGARD THAT. I CAN'T DRAW FACES.

Wow, the comic is creepy! Really well written, and the layout works really well!
It would be nice if you put in digital writing if you want to do a really polished version!

If you did a web comic I would read it!

Eyebrowless lady is really a interesting looking character. I like how she is simple in a lot of ways, but really distinct!

    The boat Gavat is nice!

    ....
I'm gonna have to say it...
    ......
    ...Keep up the good work!!!...

;A; Och! Thanks so much, mate.

Glad you like it, 'specially considering I haven't tried to properly do a comic for years. xD Glad you like her design too, not the prettiest thing but she is fun to draw.

Very interesting I like!! I'd say more studies of shoulders and arms like me I have trouble with them, lol. But your style has a lot of energy and movement in it. Keep at it.

Nik: Ah yes! I was thinking I had a problem with that area, well. Along with every other area, really.

Tell you what, I had a huge 'aha' moment today.
I looked at everything I've done and saw flaws EVERYWHERE.
I'm actually thankful, because noticing what I'm doing wrong is really hard for me for some reason. Now that I can see mistakes I can hopefully work on my weaknesses and keep on progressing.

I'm probably repeating myself, but I like your latest updates. Your comic reminds me to work on mine again. Your studies look good.

Ah, that very special moment. Happens to me a lot. Especially when I step back from my work for a few days/weeks/months. I think it's an important thing to realise the mistakes, so you can act on them. Or ask others if you don't know how.

Rauwolf: Lol, the sea-weed horse with stumpy legs? xD Aha, either way cheers for the kind words.

Haha, I love your new stuff. I wouldn't say no to some yummy man on man action
Well, the rough pages of the comic are already done, but I can't get myself to do the panel sketches. Not to mention the inking and b/w coloring o__O. I feel like I have to practice more to get a decent result, but I'll post some of the rough pages in my SB to satisfy your curiosity . Keep up your good work.

P.S.: I'm lazy with working on my flaws as well *gg*

Awww yeah! High five for laziness and comic working!

Don't know about you, but I've had no experience doing comic stuff before. xD Been reading some books on comic theory though, so hopefully I might learn something.

Check out understanding comics by scott mccloud if you haven't done already. There's another one he did too, which is equally useful.

EDIT: GOTTA MAKE SURE I GOT AN UPLOAD WITH EVERY COMMENT I MAKE.

I've read Understanding Comics not long ago and his other books as well. I don't know much about comic theory as well, I mostly do it by gut feeling.

I've had one of my friends look over the roughs to see if it's understandable and he said it was. I think it's helpful to have someone look over it. As with all other art stuff.

I just posted the layout scribbles of the first 4 pages if you'd like to check them out. Crappy art though

Awesome sketchbook you have here! That drawing you did of the lion sculpture was badass.

I love your characters, such a nice style going on there.
And your watercolors are friggin' gorgeous

You're one of these people whose sketchbook shows me how lazy I am lol

I really like those thumbnails, it'd be nice to see some of those developed into finished pieces.

Those hand studies are coming along really well, keep at it. Most of your studies are just lines though, maybe you should try some value studies. I've found they really help with getting a grip on form.

Faces and form, definitely things I was noticing I lack in. Cheers for the crits!

Lux: Thank you! And you're definitely right. I was noticing problems in the faces I draw m'self and considering how bad I am at seeing faults, they must be pretty obvious errors. Going to do more face studies ASAP. Cheers!

Clur: Oh! Today when I was doing hip studies I was thinking I'd have a much easier time if I could just find some bloody photos of skeletons so I could understand the form. I pretty much just guessed it and shaded /very/ lightly. Form in general is definitely something I need to get to grips with so I'll be keepin' that in mind. Cheers, mate.

Edit: Just going to put out some self evaluation here on my faces
    - Often features are baddly aligned.
    -Jaws tend to be lopsided
-Lack of understanding of form around the face (areas around chin/cheek/forehead)
    -Mouths. Just Mouths.
-Making eyes either too big or too small.
    -Nose bridges, how dey work?

    Goooot toooo doooo someee studdiieeesssssssss

Since you left a comment in my sketchbook I felt like leaving one in yours
You have made a lot of progress in the past year and rummaging in this thread has been a joy.
I feel like sometimes your figures look a bit stiff and lack umm.. maybe grace is the word?
Perhaps you should try to emphasize the arc of movement more and add more lineweight to your sketches.
I haven't seen all that much color so that might be something you wanna tackle too.

    Looking forward to seeing more

Xelar: You're definitely right that they lack grace. I have some real problems with that. I'm thinking I need to do more gestures (after I do loads more anatomy studies) Anyways, cheers for the crits mate

Now, my camera's out of power and my chargers still on IOM so it may be a way while till my next update. On the bright side that means you all get a break from my spamming. In the mean time I'll kick myself into gear and start really tackling my many, many, issues before I crack up. xD

Suppose in order my priorities are:
    1.Legs/hips
    2.Faces
    3.Arms/torso/hands
    4.Form + figures in general
    5.Colours

I got to kind of think of things in smaller chucks I suppose, but I'll be damned if I don't atleast slightly cover each before my 18th.

Wish me luck, comrades. See you all next update.

Don't have much for you this week, I have a lot to figure out myself.
Good to see the anatomy and that you are getting into the bones!
I think you need to spend a little more time working out/relating the proportions of the bits of the bones. Like you're making the ilium super big compared to the pubis and you not keeping them consistent.
I wasn't going to but I've done a few sketches, similar to whats in Stephen Rogers Peck's book (which I recommend, he has some good simplifications of the bones and muscles) which hopefully aren't to confusing
    Keep at it!

Ah, Bruce! Everytime you come here you always hit the nail on the head.
Just last night I was sat writing notes on what bad habits I need to rid myself of and I'm sure the reason I keep getting proportions wrong is simply because I'm rushing. I should be spending that extra bit of time searching for patterns in how things relate in scale and distance so I can better remember them.

I'm rambling so I'll stop myself there and thank you again, cheers bro! (I'll make sure to keep an eye out for that book too.)

The last one of the watercolor sketches is wonderful. And your studies are going quite well. I need to get back to them too.

MBK: Och, cheers mate! And don't you worry, I'd never quit. Couldn't if I tried.
Zeich: Got to love watercolours. And more studies never do anyone any harm, they're actually fun once you get into them, aren't they?

Yeeeah, that's what I like to see! Those studies are looking pretty badass.

I particularly like that elderly Gavat lady.
