You are not a n00b at all---in fact, you seem quite experienced with your doodlings. My doodlings are unbearable to look at by contrast.

    Everything is better with dinosaurs.

    THIRD PAGE! YEAAHHH!
To Bo-ee: Ahh, my Mum always tells me to up the contrast, It's something I'm definently going to work on, thanks for the comment.

TrexMaster: Och, thank you very much xD I'm definently a n00b though because there are so many things I have yet to learn, it'd be foolish of me to go on here and say I was 'a compitent artist' I'm here to grow and learn like everyone else.

-and don't be so hard on yourself either, there are two things that hinder progress; being too harsh and being too ego-tistical about your own stuff.

Hello hello, I must say I haven't been in the best mood for most of today, I had a psychology exam that I was stressing about. It turns out thatI forgot many studies and names of researchers, how embarressing xD

Then I took a two hour walk home which helped raise my mood though, and afterwards I did a few doodles

Random doodles of possible scenes and things in my story (nothing serious I'm afraid)

And this, well, this is going to be something interesting.
I'm combining three animals together and painting it(try and guess what the animals are ;P). Sorry the legs are so short. It's been rather fun to come up with though, I might do some more!

Good morning good morning and what a good morning it is!
    Why?
Because I have no exams until Thursday, and they're the last ones.
I'm going to dedicate this as an art day and believe me, I'm going to do more studies and copying/ manipulating what I see in refferences and what not.
I might even do a still life! Can you believe it?

what was going to be a simple torso study turned into - I don't even know. xD

Well, that's it for now my friends.

nice doodlings... i see a lot of improvement in the face part. especially a lot of variety in faces. i guess you should practice more full body anatomies .i love that water color painting of that girl . it looks great. i am looking forward to see more finished sketches

btw i dig that horse like creature... it has a lot of potential.. let me guess.. horse ,zebra, donkey?? lol

    Ah many thanks Sin eater!
It just so happens that I've came back after doing a quick full-bodied pic of a celtic girl
and the creature, you were close with horse
It's actually Horse-seahorse and sea slug! (Weird combo, I know) xD

    Got a bit toony here.

    Annd

I actually did some eye studies, in colour!

i would love to see some realistic work of yours. some body study, or a portrait. no stylization, but the most accurate representation of what you see... and hey, that celtic girl, thats you

Aha, thankyou Punkie, and I never noticed how similar the celt girl is to me till now! (I swear, it's the Irish in me xD)

And you're very right, I've been a bit more lax then I should have been realism-wise but I'm putting on more Anatomy studies, full bodied pics and realistic portraits all on my must-do list.

    HAAANNNDSSS, SO MANY HANNDSSSS

And, for future refference for myself:
Do more anatomy studies (especialy legs, faces and torsos)
Do some srs bsns realism (still life, self portraits, the dog etc)
Translate realism into my characters (for fun)
Do that Loomis head rotation practice with different characters (for fun)
    Practice dynamic poses.

I'll eventually do these things, I promise. xD

This isn't pretty; just as a warning.
I decided to do another self portrait, in about 20 minutes
When I'd let my hair dry naturaly

Good thing I can't draw Frizz very well ;D

Oh! Sorry, Malakuko; thankyou very much and believe me, I'll definently do more studies!

Wow, I had alot of comments whilst I was away:
Punkie: Aha, blunt yet effective; you're totally right, I never notice until I'm taking a photo that I don't make the shoulders wide enough, make things too thin and make heads to big. It's Like I'm giving everything lolly-pop syndrome.
I'm trying to work on that. xD

Paint my Brain: Thank you very much! Yes, I'm a stickler for using scrap paper for most of my 'unimportant' drawings, there's not very many sketchpads about and I'm such a hoarder, but I'm starting to get out of that a little bit. And when the horrid exams are over I'm thinking of doing lots of paintings, I used to be better at painting then at drawing but it's gone the other-way lately since I just hate doing things in more than one sitting (I'm trying to get out of this habit too)

Puffy nose: You're a 100% right on the realism, blame lazyness for the stylisation, I've been trying to break out of unconciously simplyfieing things and what not, I was aweful for it last year, I did a self portrait that looked nothing like me with weird anime eyes and refused to draw from both sources and realisticly, still paying the costs of such stubbornness. It's taking a while to shake it off completely but I'm doing more studies as we speak.

OlivePalm: Thank you very much! I'm quite happy with how I'm progressing with how I draw eyes but doesn't mean I'm going to stop improving them. ;P

Thank you all again for the crits and the words of praise, I want to get better and I know it seems I'm not very serious but believe me, like I keep saying, I'm going to be doing a crazy amount after the exams! So far I've only been doing them quickly when I wake up or between revision, it's rather tiring.
But enough of the excuses, I'm here to improve and improve I will.

Going back to revision soon but I've done some /very/ quick studies from magazines, I know, they're bad, but I've noted down next to them what I've done wrong, such as I keep making mouths too low and chins smaller and cheeck bones weirdly, amongst other things.

I'm also writing up a list of things and areas I need to work on.

When Thursday is over I get a loonnnng weekend so hopefully I can get my arse into gear.

    See you all then

Back again and officialy no more exams to do this year!
Thank you very much, Jelmer this year I've been trying to 'broaden my horizons' (that sounds cheesey) by using lots of different mediums, I can't believe how many people like my biro doodles too, quite a surprise, I'll definently be doing more of them since they're the easiest to do. xD

Thanks to you too dleoblack, I've been getting so many lovely comments, it makes me very happy!

Back again, I have some more doodles :'D

These weren't doodled with biro so they were a bit more tricky to get right (couldn't really sketch with them)

then I found a biro and did some drawings from stock photos because I mess up guy's anatomy xD

Back again and I'm coming up with another creature/character
As a hint towards what she/he might be I've got some doodles though I've decided it won't look much like any of these ideas.

When I'm done it's going to be a full bodied picture (because I need to get used to doing them) and a water colour... I might even spend time on it!
    ;P

Ah, you're off to a very good start. I do like your style, a bit of anime and horror influence, looks like? You do it well, its very elegant and flowing.

What I think may help you a bit is some more observation. It'll help solidify a few things you're having trouble with - a bit with body proportions, and it'll help make your creatures (like the demonic skull-looking things) more powerful and scary.

While you work from observation, try to push your shadows a bit. It's especially evident from your self portrait that while you're certainly aware of shadows, that you prefer line work. You only hint at vague shadows around your features. Shadows are good, they'll give you a larger, 3d understanding of a real object that you can then take and use to enhance your more stylized 2d character designs.

    Aha, thanks guys.

And Emily, you're quite right about both my shading and proportion, I have been quite lax lately about shading, sometimes I don't even think about lighting what-so ever, which is a very bad habit xD but I'm going to work on that too!
