I think it is because the middle of the line of the chin doesn't line up exactly with the nose etc.

Have you tried drawing slower and see what happens?

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

I live! Sorry about that. I've been doing a fair bit of writing, on top of having to revise for a psychology mock. The mock's over now so I think I'm going to take it easy tonight. xD

    Anyways, reply time!

Dsacc: Thank you! And glad to see another Zelda fan! Gerudos were one of my favorate races. I don't really think I have a consistent style yet, but I'm hoping to some day. Thanks again!

Black spot: I was thinking the problem was something along them lines! I've been scratching my head over it for ages. I'll try again to fix it up some time, thanks for the feedback.

Bethany: Aha, thanks mate! Prints with more than one colour are a little fiddly, but they can give out some unexpectadly good results. Basically you print your lightest colour, then cut where you want that colour to remain, then print again (with a slightly darker colour) and repeat until you're happy. The bad part is you have to print loads of them on each stage since you can't change the print once you've carved into it.

Your figure and gesture studies are coming along
nicely, and you did an interesting doodle.
Your leg drawing skills improved very much,
    compared to the earlier pages.
Keep it up like this my dear.

Hello again. Got another small batch of updates.

    Replies:

Plissken: Thanks mate! And I'm actually surprised you can see improvement, most of my last posts (and even this one) are non reffed. After doing copies and copies of diagrams, I started trying to replicate them as best I could from my head. I used to hate legs, but now I end up doodling them everywhere. xD

Kiwigarbage: Ahhh, someone else who likes prints! (or atleast making them, I don't know about you, but the process of actually printing with them is a messy buisness indeed xD)
And the paintings? Well, I'm ashamed to say I didn't put much thought into them. I did some faint and vaig sketch then immediately started painting with acrylics. No real plans, just an idea that I started to build upon as I went. xD

    Problem areas:
Torso, arms, side views, hands, eyes aaannnd mouths.

Don't be silly, you little silly.
Of course I can see improvements. With every
post of yours, you are improving a notch.
I know that you have some problematic ares, but
we all have some lesser flaws here and there.
You just do not worry too much and keep posting.
I like your drawings in this last post, they are anatomically
much more correct then they were before.
So are we working or not?
    Come on, post something...

Plissken: You're like a wee ray o' sunshine upon this sketchbook. I wish you'd update your sketchbook soon so I could try to repay your kind feedback with some of my own. xD
My Gran always says you improve with every drawing you do. It's probably why I always draw so much.

As long as I know my weak areas, I can work to strengthen them.

Speaking of weak areas, I've done a page of hand practices. Might start making a habit of that until I can draw them properly.

Edit: starting to work on a small painting too, based off an old watercolour I did.

Two paint doodles as I finish up for the night.

Raffix: Looks like I'll be getting to 27 pages by the end of the week too.

Black Spot: Curses! My excuse has been made reduntant! Tommorow's Friday, and I do have a few pounds on me, so I might have a walk about to the art shop after school and buy the thinnest brush they have. xD

awesome! Try drawing the skull first then the face. or vice versa. Davinci did that when he painted , said a show about the bio of davinci. Maybe your problem with faces will cease to exist!!!
Sooner or later, naidy . You WILL show your writings.

Drawings are looking betta, sometimes you loose constructions of things a little bit but you are getting there. Any thoughts on rendering things out? Would be good practice to improve your understanding of form.

Oh and btw, that smiley face painting thing creeps the hell out of me whenever you post it up.

Yes indeedy, printmaking is my "profession" if you can lump my artmaking into one direction. But I'm an artist that uses printmaking as a form of art, not a printmaker for other artists.

And omg, I love the mess...not cleaning it up, but all of those toxic chemicals get me so excited. YAY FOR NITRIC ACID! And lithotine...and mineral spirits...and turpentine...hm...I should probably start wearing a mask. HAHA! Oh well, who needs a liver anyway?

In your paintings, you might have some more structural success if you block out colored areas, then draw on top of those masses for detail. Helps me out anyway THough, you might already be doing this...

Good heavens! Can hardly believe how many comments I have today, I'll make sure to visit each and every one of your sketchbooks in thanks.

    Replies:

Puffynose: You know, I can't believe I forgot the skull thing when I was doing those big paintings. xD I've gotten some critique from my art teachers on the first one, So I'm hoping to finish them this weekend.
And one day I may do so- I've already finished four consecutive chapters.Along with nine, eleven and seven xD

Mr.Man: Yes, I've definitely notived some days I understand what I'm doing construction-wise and another day I might be missing entirely. Just means I need to study more, right? And I'll make sure I pay more attention to shading and form too! Thanks for the crits.

Ladyknowles: Aha, thank you very much! Painting's quite a treat for me, hopefully going to do some more tonight.

Janemag: Ah, thank you! Hands and torsos are a major problem area for me, but I'm finding the studies are more fun than I thought.

Velocity Kendall: Thank you! I'm hoping I can get that finished too for monday.

Kiwigarbage: Ahh, I love your enthusiasm for print making! And It's more satisfying making your own prints too. I've seen others that'll trace things over their print, I don't see the point of it at all! No fun in that.
And about the crit, The tips are definitely helpfull. I'm ashamed to say I rarely make any plans for structure/form. I'll certainly try it out!

Oh, and Black spot, if you're there... Turns out paint brushes on the Isle of Man are £2:50. *shakes head in dissapointment* I still bought one though! The thinest one they had, too. xD

Right, been reading about perspective and so far I understand it, but once it comes to actually putting pen to paper I'm failing miserably. I won't give up though!

Those hands are really nice. If you're doing perspective studies in one point or two-point-on-the-horizon styles then all verticals remain vertical. Some of your ones are bowed or angled. Use your vanishing point ruler to rule up your lines as well. A t-square and set squares make perspective easy peasy.

DonalFall: Ahh, I thought I was doing something wrong! I'll add that to my notes and try again later.

    So.
Also doing some studies of myself from some photos miss had taken. I have bad trouble drawing self portraits without making them unintentional caricatures. xD
I put the reff along side this, since I really have trouble seeing where I'm going wrong.

I did a flip of the picture, and it seems like I've done the chin too big, neck too thin, something's cartoony about the eyes and the head shape is different. I think I'll have another go after I post this. Cheers for any crits at this stage though.
    Edit: Had another go
Evaluation: My face is weird and my hands are tinnnyyyyy.

Chin's fine, I think, but it's tilted at a different angle. Your nose breaks (or at least very closely touches) the curve of your right cheek on the photo, but it doesn't on your drawing, which is why that side of it feels funny, the base of the nose is too thin and the lips could use a bit more of work.

    Damn, that sounds harsh.

And I have no idea how to fix it...

Hey, it's not harsh at all! Ahaha, I needed the crit. xD
Yeah I knew I was drawing the nose the wrong distance from the cheek. Kept thinking it looked too big when I did it. But I think my intuition is the reason I keep getting it off. xD

I love your process sketches, really alive. Id much rather look at a Leonardo sketch than the Mona Lisa frankly.
I think the painting I quoted above looks great as is, for example, but thats just me.

Ah, you certainly are kind, Kendall. I'm glad you like the sketch, though I'm hoping I can get better at drawing what I see without editing it. I know what you mean about sketches in general though, I've seen sketches from Alphonse Mucha and Leonardo and they're absalutely mind blowing! Just shows what talents have left their mark on the world.

Right so, I've got a quick Loomis figuredrawing sketch too,(The man got messed up considerably. xD) and I think I'm going to retire and do some writing so I don't spam the sketchbook thread all night. Cheers everyone- I'll probably have updates ready for tommorow!

Ooh, it's nice too see some frequent updates.
But hey, is the pic with the two people in #767 Link and Midna? Just looks similar is all.
    Anyway, keep it up!

LOOOVE the painting you've been up too! So cool, you get a lot across!

Studies are becoming epic in there selves as well, the hands on the last page are great, the form seems perfect!
Keep putting that beautiful face to use and keep the self portraits coming, there improving with each one

    Keep at it!

My mother was having a hot bath just a moment ago,
and I rushed into the bathroom, grabbed her by her neck
and pulled her out, so she could see your great new drawings.
And I said to her; Hey, it is that girl that you have met the
last time, you remember, the girl that draw so beautiful and
she is so beautiful and she posted her picture again, and my
mother tried to breath deeply. Then I let her throat go.
She was shocked once again seeing your divine artistic
interventions over this dry sandland. She was fading away,
I had to throw her once again in the snow. She is cool now.
Thank you milady. You are my angel.

I've just been checking up here between writing and I'm starting to feel guilty for letting comments hang so long, so I've done a quick unreffed page of madness to give me an excuse to post.

Dsacc: Too frequent, if you ask me. xD But anyways- I had to check the post then, I didn't really have anyone in mind when I was drawing but you've made me want to do some fanart. Haven't drawn Midna in a way while. Hmmm. I'll add it to the to-do list.

JailHouseRock2: Thank you! ;A; I don't know exactly how to respond, so I'll do my best to keep on working. Thanks for the encouragement!

Plissken: You have no idea how much I laughed at your post when I saw it. Your poor Mother must be pretty hardy to survive being thrown into the snow TWICE xD

Malakuko: Thank you! And I'm glad that made someone laugh. xD

Right, I have this strong feeling I will wake up tommorow morning, look at the last picture I posted and seriously wonder what was going through my head. I'll make up for the rushed stuff tommorow, I promise! :salute: Goodnight everyone!

    Edit

Good morning, good morning! I just looked at the picture attached here and it seems my prediction was right. No more late drawing for me, I think.

Good morning, good morning! Got allot of homework to finish, but I'm going to try and squeeze some art in there too. xD
Woke up at an awkward time this morning so I decided to make an A3 sheet of animals/random words, cut them up into pieces and put them in a bag so I can pick at random. It's a good thing to do when you're bored.
