Azureus Rising - Art & Proof of Concept shortfilm

    Hi folks,

I worked for animator David Weinstein on a proof of concept shortfilm called Azureus Rising which is finally done. There are plans to make this into a feature length CG movie in the future afaik.
I was art director/prodution designer for this and created almost all the mechanical and environment designs. Character art was created by James Zhang.
Have a look and please check out the final proof of concept on

    http://www.azureusrising.com
    or directly on youtube:

A few more sketches on my website: www.hideyoshi-ruwwe.net

    cheers!

lol I think this is the 2nd time I have ever posted in the finally finished section... ._.

Great work dude, I really like the detailing you've got going on in these designs. The concepts trailer is pretty badass too.

That, Brother, so totally rocked my World! WOW that was cool and I so love every bit of tech, the blade in particular. (ever so slightly biased ;-) Class, just all Class and I wish you all the very best of fortune to see this as a feature length. You deserve it.

Wow. Just wow. Literally rocked my socks off.
They are now laying on the other side of the room. My feet are cold.
And a feature length film? Awesome!

Watched this the other day via the 'Cheer me up...' thread. Absolutely stunning and the direction and movement is really exciting. You will have to let us know if a feature is on the cards

Having only the clip and these pictures to go by, i have to say the art looks great but empty. I have no idea what the story is or is supposed to be, is there somewhere else where that information is so that the visuals can be put into context?
There is nothing drawing me into the story at all. Why the long pause when he first gets into the city with the gun toting guys standing around like morons instead of shooting? I find it difficult to believe a hi-tech robot creature would have such terrible aim. Why all the strange pauses? Where were the people? Perhaps I am simply missing something, I usually am.

Great design work! But...why is the hero named Azureus? Does he have henchmen called Mu-Torrent and Transmission?

Yeah, that bothered me too. It seems to be a tradition of sci-fi action films that the bad guys mostly shoot randomly, or else just stand around and wait to get killed. This goes back at least as far as the Imperial Stormtroopers in the original Star Wars movie, who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

I agree about the lengthy pausing/posing, etc but I thought it was pretty badass! Amazing cityscapes, Hideyoshi and congrats on contributing to such a cool project!
