    Maximum Redundancy

LOL! A rat in Washington, D.C. Wonder how that got there?

Oh, by the way, the speech was about how we will now protect you (for your own good) from achieving the American dream unless you fall within specifically identifiable classes of people. (Because I don't have a job but am a freelancer I had to fight for months to get my loans even in the boom time. I'm still paying for my house while lots of the "job" jackasses are walking away. I'd say there's more than one way to define class here and the "powers that be" have picked the wrong definition to run with. I don't need their protection. Thanks anyway, Nanny State.

It would impose new restraints on the largest, most interconnected banks and demand proof that borrowers could pay for the simplest of mortgages.

"Our goal is not to punish the banks but to protect the larger economy and the American people from the kind of upheavals that we've seen in the past few years," Obama said earlier Thursday

So you want the banks to continue to hand out sub-prime loans like hotcakes, one of the main reasons we're in this financial mess to begin with?

You are attempting to attribute a position to me that I didn't take, thereby manufacturing a premise for a slippery slope argument.

Well then when you start a rant thread state your position, otherwise the out of context quotes will factor into people's interpretation of your post.

I love the way they bring in 'experts' to discuss a rodent when the president has just given a speech, anyway I reckon it's an escaped hamster!

That's actually not what "slippery slope" means. I think you're talking about strawmanning.

Either way, his argument is a valid one.

As for me, I looked up pictures of "voles" on the internet, and I'm siding with the experts who say it looks like it could be one of those things (those US experts certainly know their rodents). It looks like a mole from this distance (the shape of their body and size of their tail are certainly the same, and they can even sprint short distances above ground) but it doesn't seem to be having a pair of huge digging claws.

Voles are cute. I've caught one before.
