    Art and Flash Actionscript

Hi, I'm a New Media art student and I was figuring about studying animation and implementing some Actionscript to make some really cool things in flash. The problem is, despite all my references of books for animation, I don't know any references for Actionscript. I'm no stranger to programming, my minor is Business Computers Information Systems and I took to Java programming like a fish into water. Does anyone know of any good references for Actionscript 2.0 and 3.0?

I've always found the books by Colin Moock to be the most useful:

    "Essential ActionScript 2.0"
    "Essential ActionScript 3.0"
    "ActionScript The Definitive Guide"

If you've learned AS2 and you're making the transition to AS3, this is a handy outline of the differences:

Also, the built-in help docs in Flash are pretty useful by themselves. I dip into them a lot whenever I'm unsure of anything.

check out John Davis and the hype toolset for actionscript. he has a ton of nifty examples for it and the use of hype makes the coding process much more easier and enjoyable. Combine some of the abstract designs with some Andrew Jones inspired illustrative work, and you got something awsome.
