I've decided to make a sketchbook both as a way of getting advice and constructive criticism, but also for me to record and gauge my progress.
I took a beginning painting class this semester and have really fallen in love with this medium. I see myself working with it for quite a while.
My latest painting assignment was a self-portrait. I had to argue with my teacher to let me stray from the traditional pose but it was worth it. This is nowhere near finished.
The drying time of oil has taught me to work on multiple paintings in stages. I like the slower pace because it forces me to spend a lot more time on my work, making changes and improvements I probably would not have otherwise.
My second painting currently in the works. I just started this yesterday so its only a very rough sketch.

The first of a new self-portrait project. I'm...weird looking. Hahah! The discrepancy between what I think I look like and what I actually look like is...huge! My face is a lot longer, narrower between the cheek and jawbone. The top of my skull is also much less round than I thought. The flesh on my cheekbones is a lot fuller, I think, thank I drew.
I forgot all about this thread! Haha! So two years have gone by since I've updated and there's been a lot of growth. A quick recap:
A painting done in my first life drawing class. (Early 2011)
I've since continued and taken more life drawing classes to improve my anatomy. (Late 2011)
And this one is from last night (2012)
