Oh wow, the last one with the old man is awesome!
And yeah you should be happy with the idea, I haven't seen all there is to see obviously, but i haven't seen much like that one before. Which makes it quite inspiring in my eyes.

Simon - I just went through the whole kit here - it's pretty much just strength to strenght! I love the woman pencil drawing in #14 and agree in a later post you mentioned the 98 99% grays -- getting those subtle, very close values really makes things come alive! wonderful stuff - keep it up mate! - kevin

very delicate colours and drawings, simply beautiful!

I know its a rush job but there could have been something pale between character and infinite whit abyss to show little depth, abstact shapes or enviromental cues, anyway othervise really good looking!

Hey thank you for the comment on my sketchbook, I really love your lines, and these oil paintings especially, they are very inspiring. I just recently picked up some oils myself but I really dont know where to start, I can just about mix and blend skin tones but seeing this makes me more eager to learn about them. Have you any tips to point me in the right direction? or are there any exercises that I can practice? I am very eager, thanks again!

Metal Fingers: Thanks ! Ah, the razor I guess was just what popped in to my head. his choice of weapon? I should have thought that out better, that hand and that knife are probably the weakest part of the picture, and that's saying something!

ArtZealot, Yor, prsnsweeney, AlstonInk, ColorExcursion, Hazart, cwc0436, Swooshbuckler, Seage, dernick, : Thanks so much, all of you!

surus: I will try to put up more !

    GoldenSerpent, My57,: Thank you !

kevinwueste: Thanks mate ! I gota get some pictures of my life work and put it up, this sb is really missing it since I love doing it so much ! would love your feedback once I do get some up!

Nettle_Mountain: Thanks mate! I intended the background to be simple even if I'd spent more time on it, inspiration from some other pictures. but I don't think I really achieved the effect I was after. oh well, try again I shall !

Diabolique, dleoblack, Verehin, krel: Thank you all very much !!

JoeS: Thank you I've just started in oils myself really so I'm not the best one to ask, but from what I've done so far and what I intend to do later on I'll say this - Check out Richard Schmid's Alla Prima book, it's incredibly handy and well written (for the likes of me anyway) I've started using his colour palette as a starter since I know I like his colours. Colour charts I intend to do when I get the time, but I'm currently doing studies from life of objects, generally food because I enjoy it hehe. spending as much time as I need to get the colour and tones as correct as I can. It's a huge subject and there is much that frustrates me, but keep it up and we'll learn together!

    brenthollowell: Thanks!

So I decided I should show a little bit of what i'm really spending my time on these days. I've been doing lots of oil painting, and I'm nearly finished my first still life painting, which I'll post up soon. It's been a huge learning curve, and not enough time to spend doing studies before biting off the big ones.

Here are a few little oil studies I did in a few hours each. Some of the first attempts at painting with a full colour palette (Richard Schmid's palette specified in his Alla Prima book) and it's been quite difficult, but it feels great to be learning and slowly improving

This drawing was a study for that portrait commission that's still in the works. Life size, I did this referencing rembrandt's 'Man in a Golden Helmet' for the expression and lighting, and changing the likeness to the person I was trying to draw. Very difficult and not entirely successful. But I figured I'd put it up since it was leaning up against the wall staring at me for weeks and weeks.

Those oil studies are coming along really nicely and the improvement is certainly evident! Really nice work on that portrait also.

Man-O'-man......I saw these and I had to go to my room and put my Jealousy-Pants on....I'm wearing them now, and I'm red and fuming (: eheh. I'm glad you put the exhibition photos up. Those paintings are such rippers....shame about the photo-quality, particularly on the dark one of the triple-girl....doesn't do it justice! Maybe check Wanimal's thread for photography....that guy can take some damn nice photos. Anyway, I'm off to fiddle wiv me dick.............mmm, that's strange, I seem to have misplaced it......oh whoops, there it is........just had to squint to see it..........now, where are my tweezers?

jskotte, Lang Oulk, rumpenstiltzkin, MacTire: Thank you !

Carl: lol thanks man, yeah I suck balls at photos. I need to work on that.

andres333, greyskill, hammajamma, witek: Thanks !!

So I took my (brother's) camera to school and took some pictures of my a3 sketchbook there. I haven't been getting in to do much life drawing at all this year, but I've done little bits and pieces now and then. I love doing it so much ! I wish I could make it to do more.

.5 Mechanical pencil. mostly 5 - 10 minutes I guess. though some 1 and 2's and I think the portrait is like 30 minutes or something. More to come when I have time to process the photos :T
