Now with more COMICS and SOUND EFFECTS!!

thanks for taking a look at my humble little sketchbook.
i wont make you any false promises about updating everyday, but ill give it my best shot.

i drew with ball point pens or charcoal for far too long.
while those are great i felt i finally needed to try some color.

this is going to be my journey of moving away from drawing floating stoic faces, and people standing around in cool poses, to full illustrations that have some sort of story to em.

these images were inspired by a surreal short story "kamisama" by hiromi kawakami about a bear who just moved in 3 doors down.

not everything i draw is so....cute

    i think.

Wow! So cute! I like both lines and colors and I think the story-telling works well too.
Keep it up, I will be back to support your noble purpose!

BEAUTIFUL work man! I love it all. i would really like to see you do something with the sketch of the boy and girl holding hands, and her looking in the window. I don't know why i like that so much, but i was really drawing to it, and think it could make a great colored scene.

J: Don't call my escorts hookers.
    B: Mom's still got it!
    J: I don't date whores!
L: This objectification of women has to stop!
M: It's just mom and whores...

nakedzerling: thanks! if i have time i may do that, but ive got so many things i want to do already!

hatonacat: as you wish. no color this time though :/

dsmith: thanks! always cool to hear i actually have a style. i guess it just happened without me realizing it

ivan turcin: thanks, its definitely more fun to draw stories than countless studies (although i know i should be doing those too)

i was inspired by picture book report and decided to illustrate one of my favorite stories from my childhood. night on the milkyway railroad by miyazawa kenji. there was an anime back in the 80s called night on the galactic railroad starring cats. anyway heres my take on it. some of the thumbnails are more rough than others (and some are missing), but hopefully you get the idea.

    here’s a sketch of chapter 9, part 1 of 6

    chapter 9a: ジョバンニの切符 giovanni’s ticket

from off to the side the bird catcher took a quick look and exclaimed

“well well, you got yourselves somethin special here! with that ticket you can go all the way to the heavens! even higher! why you’ve got passage to anywhere your heart desires. the holder of that ticket can travel anywhere they can dream of on this imperfect fourth dimensional milkway railroad. you boys are really somethin.”

Sweet SB. I like the soft colours you use.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

    Really really sweet drawings

Do you study in Graphic Design faculty, ryan?
(Because in my country, usually I see this style of drawing in graphic design student's work. And it just like we could starting to say "Oh, his basic is art..." or "Her basic is graphic design..." or "He's studying drawing from manga/comic books" by looking at their artworks)

Everything you draw has a personality; I don't know how you do it! Some of your drawings makes me think of Miyazaki, but grittier and more complex.

I really hope to see more from you. I would love to see you go bonkers with pastel. If you want to learn to use color, you've gotta break yourself in! Unless you want to paint, pastel would be an excellent option for you if you'd like to keep drawing but use rich colors.

    Best of luck
