    Recent Portfolio Submissions

We are still in the process of getting more of the recent student portfolios up onto our site so you can all study and enjoy them...it is turning out to be a rather massive job as this year there are a lot of really good ones that deserve attention for certain....it was a good year!
You guys just keep getting better and better!!

In the meantime I'll provide the link to our portfolio page as there are several newer portfolios that we've managed to get up onto the platform, and we intend to continue uploading over the coming weeks...
I've attached several drawings here from our student Jessica Lu...she's looking at both animation and is submitting a portfolio to the illustration program at Sheridan as well....

Enjoy and happy drawing to all....I would say happy spring, but in Toronto Canada at least, well, things ain't feeling much like Spring quite yet temperature wise...

    Here's hoping.

    Alisen Montoya Sheridan Portfolio

Here are some examples from the accepted Sheridan animation portfolio of Alisen Montoya, the winner of our 2017 Free Tuition Character Design Contest.

Alisen was a high school student from Mayfield Secondary School in Caledon Ontario at the time that she entered our contest, and in spite of some very stiff competition, she managed to snag the first prize of free tuition for the 2017- 2018 Spring Workshop.
Over the next 10 months we worked very diligently with Alisen in order to produce the successful portfolio that I've provided the link to here that got her a seat in both the Seneca and Sheridan animation programs for 2018.

Moral of story.....enter the upcoming APW 2019 Free Tuition Character Design Contest when it rolls around again in January....there is nothing to lose and everything to gain...all that is required of you to enter is that you have fun designing, drawing and submitting your own character designs....that's it!

    Happy Drawing!!

Apw Grad Pat O'Keefe Art Director On Into The Spider-Verse

A belated Happy New Year to the folks at Conceptart!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate APW grad Pat O'Keefe, who landed the role of Art Director along with Dean Gordon on Spiderman-Into The Spider-Verse.

We taught Pat how to draw many years ago, and are honoured to have played a part in contributing to his development as a creative artist.
We'll be featuring Mr. O'Keefe's APW student portfolio on our site, as well as a video interview we shot with Pat when he popped into town to pay us a visit and share a drink over the holidays.
In the video clip, Pat talks about his early days as an APW student, and holds forth on various topics of conversation that revolve around observational drawing and its value with respect to concept art and animation.

    Stay tuned!

    Happy Drawing!

Sheridan Animation Portfolio Examples and We Have a New Blog!!

    Hello all...

Well, the big animation portfolio crunch for a number of APW students applying to various animation schools is over, and as usual I've collected up a number of images from various APW animation portfolios to post here while we're getting our act together with respect to posting the entire new sets of animation portfolios on our website for your viewing pleasure....this always helps to give prospective animation school students an idea of what goes into an animation school portfolio, quality levels, etc etc....

Also, we have added a blog to our website that has a bunch of interesting stuff on it relating to animation, animation school, animation portfolios, and some wider topics related to observational drawing practice as well.

The APWDRAWINGBLOG will definitely prove of interest to those of you interested in the above mentioned topics, and of course I'm going to take this opportunity to plug two of the posts I recently wrote called 'Is it Really Possible to Learn to Draw Online' and 'What Does Learning the Language of Drawing Have to do With Making an Animation Portfolio?'
I know, it's shameless self promotion plugging my own posts lol, but in this case I really feel there is some content in these blogs I've written that present interesting and helpful concepts education-wise for observational drawing students, especially new ones who are making a start of it.

    Happy Drawing!!
