An outside host means exactly that - an image host that's not Conceptart.org. Instead of adding the thumbnail with the attachment manager you have to host it on another site (your private domain, photobucket, (both recommended) or imageshack for instance).
The full image gets added with the attachment manager, however.

After you uploaded the thumbnail somewhere, you simply add the [IMG] [/IMG] around it and you're done

The long "route of Endless" leads up from the "Haven of Beginning" to the magnificint city of magicians, its guarded by the two giant fortifications "Gate of Circle" and "Gate of Chain" and ends in the "Wall of Infinite" that protects the great City.

A question, this format is way off the recommended one, is that ok crx? I feel its a nice way to show the length of the gate system and give the picture a magical feel that i think adds to the subject.

Thinking of dropping or reworking the haven and the pretty redicilous statues infront of gate two, maybe make them giant demonic lions.

Also thinking of either a very colourful look or a very gothic and dark one.

Did a little something for this one. I only hope I get to work out the messed up perspective and finish it on time.

i really love the topic , i always want to take part in an eow and end up making hollow claims that i'd finish a topic , so this time im just going to post a WIP and let the images do the talking .
critique and/or encouragement will really help
i think i have my setting , now to add gates , floating rocks , the city in the background flags etc.
EOW 139 The Grand Gate to the city of Magicians

@ benza : i really like the idea , too bad you cant take it further
@PMaz : looks like a great start , although i think the glowing lines cutting the surface of the gates give it a sorta techy look for me , unless thats what ur going for ??
@S.M: i think that idea kicks ass , i love the scale of things and the largeness of the gate , its giving me a persian/desert setting environment sort of feel like arabian nights and very cool.
looking forward to seeing progress etc.

SM: nice start! Can't wait to see it finished!
Benzo: I like it, neat drawing!

not sure about this, actually really unhappy with it, call it a sloppy start (that might never be finished! )

Hideyoshi: liking the start a lot. Expanding the picture frame more to show more of the gate, or at least the arch shape will help adhere this to the topic imo. I hope you do finish it

I've been stalking this forum for a while and you guys alway do such an amazing job!
I'l have to give it a go some time but for now I thought I might chip in with a bit of feedback (most of which is purely personal preference )

Ragnj: I enjoy the idea of the gate but I'd be careful when you go into colouring to make sure the main tower with the eye/circle is not too reminiscent of the Lord of the RIngs

Benza: that's a beautiful drawing/painting the only thing i could suggest is to make the gate pop out a little more ?

vibhas_virwani: i worship that colour scheme! i would crop the image a little on both sides because i think you might have a little too much of a background that will take alway from the tower, but it's just an idea; i think the purples and browns at the front of the stairs clash a bit but then again, i have no idea how it will look finished

    S.M. : i like the desert-y feeling of it

Nightblue: my faves are the 3rd and 4th thumbs

Hideyoshi: nice "sloppy " start the POV and the sense of scale are really strong!

Kan MUftic: that mood of coldness and danger are oozing from the image already :worship: in my mind, the front arch is a little distracting; i'm not sure how to explain it: i think it does a good job along with the tunnel of leading the eye into the direction of the tower ahead of it but at the same time it attracts too much of a focus on itself; maybe just the combination of it and the man; sorry for being so vague

Nightblue: thanks! Yeah, the 'gate' part isn't quite covered with my start
Nice thumbs! I'd suggest getting rid of the whites a little more and start with a neutral grey and work in the darks and lights from there.

Kan: more depths maybe? The dark values are pretty close to each other, could benefit from a stronger range More separation between foreground and background, but you know this stuff, right? pauscorpi has a point but maybe the unvonventional composition is an interesting experimental take nontheless...

    thanks, pauscorpi!

Thanx guy´s for the suggestions and comments so far. I felt that the image didnt impose a strong gate or that it would be a main gate, but maby I can enhance it somehow by giving more height to the cliffs and also make the scale work better.. More thoughts for a few hours then back to the sketchpad..

Benza I feel that right now it breaks the picture plane in half and dosn't allow the eye to flow to the tower... If you break it up in the middle like the other ones following it I think it would solve the problem. Then again I'm having trouble with composition... ;p love your colors by the way.

I kept working on mine but I just can't get the top right... Ho well I'll tweak it if I have time... Any comment on how to fix it are very welcome.

PMaz, I¨m not sure but I think that its the perspectives that may trouble the top in your image, the gate is seen from a rather low perspective, while the entrance to the building is at almost eyelevel, giving it a little illusion that its leaning out against the viewer, and also tha "moon" may be a little to much white, since the eye travel towards white areas in a picture, it kinda distracts from the gate feature. only my opinion.
I will try and make the suggested alterations to my image after work today, so hopefuly I will have an update posted tonight.

    food for thought....
is there magic in this world? or is it all tricks and pretension. How would that effect the appearance of the gate.

sakuna: Not finished yet. I prefer to spend a little more time on painting to solve some design details, which is fun too.

Still looking for ideas. You guys have so cool design that I literally don't know which idea in my head is worth going for. Exceptionally inspirational!

    artozi; amazing stuff!
Fantastic colors and shapes. I don´t get you can complain about lacking creativity.... =P

Next step here. I´d like to bring in more color, but i´m not sure how to do that... thinking about flags maybe. Other suggestions?
Anyway, done for today. Maybe i´ll get new ideas over night...
