    Over Black Clouds

Painting for a CD cover for the band God Fear None. Depicts a desolate landscape, our travelers come upon a mysterious ancient building, so tall it breaks the clouds that enshroud the planet.

There are some 3d elements here, but most of it is painting and photomanip. I'll post the finished CD cover when it's released.

Nice work. I like the palette and tilt. Are you responsible for the type also?

Great job but I think the tilt is a little overdone. It looks too symmetrical. Play around with something like a 30 degree tilt and see what happens.

the tone and mood of this is lovely; very ethereal and reverent.

i do wish i could see a bit more of the background for some context of the location and to emphasize the scale, but i'm not overly bothered by it. nicely done!

No, I placed the type, but it came from the band. I'll post the final cover when I can, but I have to wait till the album gets released.

Some of that is from the layer of dirt ontop of the image, the client wanted it nice and dirty, but as a side effect it flattens stuff out a bit. It also doesn't help that the building is so large it blots out everything else Thanks for the crit.

Ya, the tilt is a little extreme, I originally considered something a little more subtle, but decided "the hell with it" and turned it up to 11. Maybe it was the wrong choice, but I guess if you're gonna play the wrong note, play it loud BTW, when I said I'll post the "finished" cover later, I meant with the final text, the image itself is finished and has been accepted by the client. But I'll keep your comments in mind for future images. Thanks!

Ya, looking at it now, maybe I should have pulled back just a touch more to show off some of the background, it may have added a little depth. Although on a CD cover you do tend to want something big and bold, since the final printed image will be really small. I'll keep it in mind for next time, thanks for the critique!
