For the sake of improvement- Finished stuff 8.8.

Hi ya all, I'm Noora, 17-year-old girl from finland.
Let's keep it short- I've been stuck with my art for the past two years, until just last months. I think it is Imagine FX that has given me some new hope, now I actually believe that I might learn how to do this. Obviously I'm still a complete noob, I think detailing is my strongest point but that aside I'm not that good in anything. ^^'
So as I know I have tons of things to learn, I'm asking you what areas should I concentrate on improving? I love painting humans, but illustrations aren't that interesting without proper backgrounds, so I think I'll start doing enviro photo studies soon- now that will be interesting, completely out of my comfort zone.

My first skulls! FL stands for "from life", obviously. I should've returned the skull already but I just have to do a proper still life painting with it. 8)

    Hands from reference will follow...

My first posemaniacs try, 60 seconds per pose... I thought I was better in this, gotta try it again.

Photo cop.. studies, hope they are recognisable.

And lastly some scribbles from the past year- now this, if anything shows that I haven't drawn much- this is the best traditional work I can show you from 09, how embarrassing.

And then the digitals, from newest to oldest.
I would love to hear who you think she is. Drawn from imagination.

Should I finish this? I didn't have reference for anatomy, how stupid of me, but is it so bad that I should completely re-draw it?

I want to make clear that this started out as a way to spend some time, and I didn't think about anatomy at all, so it's bad. BUT I learned a great deal about painting hair with this.

I was happy with this when I finished it- november 09- but now I see it lacks contrast and colour, anatomy ain't accurate and overall it is a bit boring... I believe I could do better now, I've had some breaktroughs in the thinking side of painting...

I'm not sure I should show you this... Well, for the sake of entertainment. At least you can see how I already master guns. I didn't head for realism with this.

And some reasonably quick oekakies from 09.

Obviously I would love to get comments, I really apprecciate critiques, I promise it will not be waste of time to write a comment.

Hi Noora, welcome to CA It's great that you decided to start a sketchbook! You have a really great grasp on drawing from life and references, that's good. One thing you can do to learn faster is to study a specific thing for a while, then try to draw that from imagination... compare, fix, go on.

You could easily snap a reference photo in a pose similar to the green fairy, do a quick re-paint and go from there. I'd add some purples and blues to break up the acid green.

Maybe a bit lame of me to say this, but I wish I had your skill when I was your age D:

I look forward to your updates!

Hi Noora, welcome to CA, its nice to meet you. I'd suggest rounding up some nude photographs and useing those to do some gestures to. I feel as if there isnt much information in pose maniacs to study from. Look for shapes in the body that you can simplifiy.

And ya show us some environment studies from photographs, and some more painted still lifes

    Keep it up!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

@Donna: Thanks for suggestions, I'll get back on that green thingy as soon as I've studied colour and anatomy a bit further. Hah, I know a 13-year-old who is better in drawing than me, now that's something to wish for.
@Dy.laneA: Okay, I'll give that a try as soon as I can. Thanks for commenting.
@pauloricardo: Sure I will keep on posting, more b/w on the way as I enjoy doing them so much!

There will be a pause in updates right away, since I'm off to Rome tomorrow!

So this is what I've been doing las couple of days... I feel a bit bad for it not beeing as refined as I hoped, but my back and shoulders started protesting in few hours as I had to sit on a floor while painting this.

I really like the still life! Nice idea giving the skull some earrings
There are also some really cool drawings in your sketchbook. like e.g. the cast shadow on the wings of the bird. Keep it up!

Very nice work on the still life! I too like the earrings, nice touch! The pencils aren't too shabby either.

You have a very nice start a sketchbook, and I am quite looking forward to seeing more.

Really awesome stuff you have here, I'd suggest you not to take anatomy or face references for paintings, in that way you notice what you should study more. And for studying color, value and that stuff you maybe wanna check out Sargent's amazing works http://www.johnsingersargent.org/
    Keep it up.

Long time no see- I have painted very little over summer due to some things I had no control over. I picked up my sketchbook just few days ago for the first time in way too many weeks, whoa those first sketches look horrible. D: I'll post several pages tomorrow, for now enjoy these few finished things, feel free to leave a comment!

Thank you people for all the comments so far! I hadn't noticed half of the new ones at all until just yesterday, it made my day!
@heix33: Thanks for the link, maybe I should try painting a masterstudy from one of those... Thanks for the other tip as well, though I feel that I'm not good enough yet to study just some parts of human anatomy, pretty much everything needs a lot of studying. : D

Yay! Another 17 year old! Welcome to Ca! Very nice paintings and still life! I'd definitely keep up the stilll life work. You should also think about trying some more environments!

Good luck! And keep up the good work!

ah another 17 year old you're really good! your digital stuff is nice - I had better start paying more attention to my ImagineFX's etc

Not that you need it, but alot more anatomy/face studies wouldn't go a miss - not much else to say atm - keep it up

Good start, that skull is awesome! As others said grab some anatomy book for artists (Bridgman, Loomis, etc) and start practicing from them. Keep up the good work!

Lovely sketchbook you have here. Your studies are really coming along great and your shading looks good. You already have a good sense of color, which is a plus. I'm liking your portraits as well. Try and do more full body studies since I'm not seeing too many of those. Keep it up!

You're sudies are looking great, keep at it! I like how you're able keep sight of your one idea with your work, and not get bogged down by unnecessary details that would detract from the whole. Since you seem to be drawing faces a lot, I'd suggest mixing in a few from reference before drawing from imagination, so you can keep comparing and improving the proportions and the structure of the face.
