Icon but what to do with the faces

Ok I've had a bit more time to work on this... I still don't know if i like where the clothes are going... and everything else hhahaha... but it's turning out better than i had thought. I can't decide weather I like the first face or the second. Oh and critqz

Metaphysiks-amazing depth and the horse is lovely! One thing seemed a tad off and that's the size of the horse's ears, i think just a lil larger and it'd be right as rain.

Sentinel-The blue is great! Just make it a bit more greenish and faded towards the horizon. You work wonderfully with colors.

DefiledVisons-Love the dark mood but I lke your first tile best, Just seems to flow better.

Ros1- Lol awsomelike a bad ass wario meets west meets... i don't know awsometown lol.

    1

    2

But yeah if anyone feels like throwing out their opinion it'd be much appreciated n_n
Oh and also what's the preference for programs? I've just been using free open source crap.

    Ennio Morricone!

I'm thinking a cursed gun(s) from an Indian burial ground infused with the spirits of the dead, or a demigod crying out for retribution. I always imagined gunslingers as the ronin of the old west.
    Any input would be appreciated!

Right, this is a great topic. I'll have to see if I can get something done for this week! It'll be my first attempt at a chow, too. Just a few comments...

Wijaha - Be careful that your heads don't get too big; it makes your characters look much younger than I think you intended. Nice concept, though!

DefiledVisions - The poncho and hood goes very well together. Great design! I don't think the pose in the second sketch is very strong; the head is very straight on and at a 90 degrees angle. His left arm is pretty stiff. I suggest you work a bit more with the line of action.

Heliux - I really like nr. 3. The smoke spirit is cool and the pose is strong. Nr. 6 is a classic, and works.

I tried sketching in Alchemy for the first time. It works reeeeally well; I can definitely see myself using it again - especially for character designs. The hard part will be to take the sketch to a more polished state while preserving its vitality, but then, that's the case with every sketch.

I'm going for a gunslinger with Indian roots, whose mystical powers have imbued him with the spirit of an eagle, giving him its keen eyesight. His eyesight, at least four times as sharp as that of a human with perfect vision, has made him the most dangerous sharpshooter in the west. I think I'll try to take the lower left sketch a little further.

Benjaminba - the lower left looks very cool, love the skull like face.

Heliux - No. 1 makes me think of Equilibrium and the gun kata (might have to watch some for more inspiration), 2 looks strong and I like the idea of 3, with the animal spirit in the background.

Ros1 - really like where you're taking the topic, that's a great character.

Messing about with something more dynamic.

I ended up approaching this from a pretty literally. As I started thinking about what a mystic, old west, gunslinger would be I realized that it'd be interesting and plausible to cast him as a wiccan, since witch hunts continued right up through the end of the 19th century. This lead me to think about how his witchcraft would shape his life, and in the 19th century, practicing wicca would surely make you an outcast from American society, leading him to affiliate with the American Indians. After some research into wiccan and native american theology, it became clear that there are some strong ties that made the pairing perfect. Animism, a concept of Mother/Father god dualities, and a holistic, natural approach to life are present in both.

That's how I landed where I am with this guy currently.

I based his features on Charles Bronson because I love how in his cowboy films his ethnic/cultural background is flexible. I feel like that adds to this character's outsider-straddling-two-worlds mystique.

    edit--
Upon stepping away from this for I bit, I've noticed spacing/anatomy issues with his eyes and face. I'll hit those on my next pass!

    and here are my crits/ccomments

Arteater: great job man really like the way this is looking only thing that kinda bothers me is that she seems way to low to the ground for that kind of maneuver but hey it still works

BRINKMAN: Great idea! awsome you did the reasearch and found that all out cant wait to see what the finished product looks like but one thing i am noticing the legs just seem like they couldnt suport his weight id play with the legs, i know there a bitch i have problems with them to

Marsch: hey man not sure what he really is to early for me to really see whats going on he looks to me like some kind of elf with a hint of santa and an alien? but anyways is he falling im not sure whats going on around him, will give more when i see more done to him sorry man dont mean to sound like an ass

Brunob: Really dig the kid guy but dosent looks so westerny? (is that a word?) anyways the other one cool concept man cant wait to see how you take this!

Nightblue: Great pose cant wait to see more!

Heliux: Sweet idea man im kinda digging 1 and 6 the others just seem a bit to mobster to me, but you should make the gun out of something like bone or what not almost to were its like some kind of conduit thing?

Ninsta: Hmmm the clothes to me dont look so much western to me maybe try for the face give a scruffy look and a mustach and some kind of hat? maybe that could help?

Rizen: Sweet look and feel, kinda reminds me about the borg chick from star trek lol, cant wait to see finished product

Carnifex: Really dig this one awsome pose and color

dumpling: hey man good idea, kinda reminds me of Paul Bunyan and his ox babe, oh and idk if the futureistic look was what you were going for but you dont have to do that, you could make him out of stone he kind of looks like a golem esk type guy

Hey guys, love the topic, some great sketches already!

I'm gonna have to work hard to finish this one in time since I've decided to try and cover all the things I usually don't. So here goes - more details, full figure and background of a sort. Will be fixed digitally... Hope I haven't bitten off more than I can CHOW (Ok, that was lame, I admit it...)

    EDIT: progress...

    cheers, Undeadartist!

not sure if i'm finished with this. will see in the morning when i'm less tired!

the bad-ass cowboy somehow came across two alien medallions which give you near-invincibility when worn, so he trots around on his bull slaughtering people all day.

Some cool stuff for this CHOW! Yay!

Okay so...I don't think that I will have time to finish this but here is my sketch as of now.

    ----
"So, why are you allowed your gun at the bar?"

"Because I am a woman, they don't think I can shoot."

    "Can you?"

"My people gave me the name 'Eagle Eye of the Single Shot'. But would you doubt me at this range?"

    "er-"

    BLAM

    ----

So that was what ran through my head whilst drawing this. She has the spirit of the eagle within her, allowing her the perfect aim. MAGICAL!

    Enjoy!

    update!

Hey all! Sorry to post and run, but I've got to get some sleep before work tonight Thank you for the kind words!

Here's my current progress - she's going to be full figure, I just cropped it for posting since I haven't really done much below her knees yet. Please ignore how sloppy everything is :p

Hey all, dropping in a little later this week, just to see if I can still finish.

Here's mine: Ingrid K. Steele, the best human bounty hunter in the Weave.
Not very magicky yet, but I've got something in mind .

    Sweet topic!

Glad I didnt miss it. I think i'm gonna use this opportunity to develope a silhouette character design I did a while ago. Will have to think up a cool mystic power though. Will have to see what happen when I start sketching.

Wow I can see alot of good work in this thread.

Here's my first sketch the concept is a blind cowgirl who uses magic to see everything arround her. This would certaily give you a great edge in those dusty town ambush classics.

    My wip

    Heya,
    Great Wips!
I have made a sketch of my idea, although I may make some adjustments to her costume/ hair to make her look more mystical.
    Any advice would be great!
