Nice stuff i like your color pallet for you enviro's , i think the biggest thing that sticks out in your sketchbook for me is you robots designs, like the rounded edges and stuff are really nice to look at, id like to see them in some sort of action scene though just to see how they fit in the world around them.

    anyway good stuff post more.

Thanks man. I'm glad you dig the colors. I always feel like I'm staying a little too neutral in my palettes and not being adventurous enough. Though, its always the more realistic palettes that seem to appeal to me.

I love doing the robots a lot, for that reason. The transitions between surfaces on them is a lot of fun to play with. Glad you like! I'll try to get a good techy/action scene up here.

    Some more...

Heya Chris, very cool sketchbook you got going here. I can definitely see your focus in ID coming through here. MIAD has a great ID department from what I understood. I'm loving the evil mountain goat and your other creature designs. Your environments are awesome too, I'm really digging the frozen over one near the top as well as the one with guys on horseback. No crits here. It looks like you got a good handle on this and will only get better!

I went to MIAD on and off for a few years but eventually called it quits. I was going for Illustration but struggled a lot. I didn't have the drive to pursue Illustration and more or less felt I wasn't getting enough out of the program for the whopping $$. Plus my focus was concept art for the entertainment industry, and it didn't seem like the Illustration department really had a lot of classes geared toward that.

I still live and work in Milwaukee though, trying to break into the art industry so I can quit my mundane day job.

I hear you on the $$$/benefit issue. I'll be feeling it for awhile. I went down a similar path of trying to steer a major that wasn't about entertainment design toward entertainment design. It is what it is, I guess.

Thanks for the comments. Environments are my favorite things to work on, but I've also been trying to include some more character rendering and sketching lately. It feels like a whole new mountain to climb.

I know a couple other local Milwaukee artists that are on similar paths. Maybe there is an opportunity to get a sketch session going or something. We should keep the conversation alive. Or just cross our fingers that CA brings a workshop to the midwest again soon

Hi Lunarsis, nice environments. Do you use any references or are they all from imagination? Keep posting new work! I would love to see more anatomy studies from you.

Hey Ivan, thanks for the nice words.

I do use references, but not as much as I could. It's something I'm in the process of remedying right now. I've always appreciated the people who could paint very fantastic, fictitious things, in a very realistic manner. Whit Brachna, James Paick, Linran, etc. It just makes it that much more believable, especially when it comes to environments.

I've got some more figure studies that I can post. I'm trying to be more versatile, while also focusing in on my environments. I'll post some soon!

    Cheers.

Fantastic start to a SB, showing a really strong and varied collection of work. Your linework in the early sketches right at the top of the page look really great, especailly in regards to showing texture and structure. Your anatomies are looking strong also.

Keep up the awesome work. Double Thumbs up!!!!

Thanks Fiddzy. I like your book too.

I put a lot of time into my line work when I was an industrial design student and I've tried to bring that over into more organic, fleshy creatures and objects. I appreciate the vote of confidence!

As far as anatomy goes, it's something that I have tried to start doing more and more of, since I left school. I used to only be a hard edge/object based kind of guy, so I took some figure drawing classes and just started to draw people that would walk by in front of my house. Again, very glad you like, I'll try to post some more of that stuff.

    Thanks for stopping by dude!

Thanks js. I sometimes think my colors are a little too ridiculous, so it's good to hear that they resonate with you.

Some new works in progress. I'm really excited about both of these, but especially the first one. It seems to have captured a mood and sense of movement that I don't think I have found in a lot of my other work. Still some hours to go on it, but updates to come.

    Thanks for looking!

The last mattepainting looks awesome. This technique is something that iīd like to learn...
regarding the rounded edges, are cool but just choose where they are adequate and where they arenīt. Donīt overuse them
keep up the good work mate

those last two are amazing - i really like the looser style of the older enviro aswell above them - so much texture and atmosphere! Really inspired by this, thanks!
