MacTire - Thanks alot man! I appreciate the encouragment Yeah I try to do them totally from memory when i do that, no looking back at the ref. Its tough.... It can get very discouraging but gota push through that.
agelaos - Hey thanks Youre studies are very inspiring!
p sage - Glad you like it Trying my best to make my work actually interesting now You went through the whole thing? Fuck haha. I hope you saw improvement, Im afraid too look back at that old stuff. Thanks for the tip on the videos, dont know If il ever post animations again Maybe! well see. Youre too kind Il make sure to bust my ass harder now!!
Kurtzund Thanks alot. Although I really lack confidence with colors, I dont think I ever go into a painting knowing what colors im going to use. I probably just havent fiddled around with them enough to make that sort of choice. Love your avatar btw haha

Finished another personal painting. Not fan art this time. Original idea, kind of morphed from one thing to another. Changed it a LOT about a week ago because it just wasnt interesting at all, there was nothing going on. I feel like this whole, thinking of a bunch of shit to put into a personal piece and then have it fit together, is something I need to get used to. Theres so many paintings that when I look at, I dont even realise the amount of objects and details because there not pulling focus. So when It came to painting my own shit, I just didnt include them because I hadnt noticed them in the paintings I like. Its a mind fuck. I guess it means I have to paint a load of boring stupid objects like jugs and wondows until im blue in the fucking face hahaha. Or else I fear I wont be able to paint them in a way as to not attract focus. Because Il be thinking, ok I havent painted whatever the fuck this is before, gota make sure all the shapes are right and its lit properly. And Il end up making it too contrasty or something. sigh........ wish I could turn my brain off for a day haha.

    Heres the fucking painting!

    happy birthday marc!

great job on the ogre's face - and that is one huge treasure chest...the placement of the mountains makes it look a bit like one of those photos where a tree is growing out of someone's head, except it's an entire mountain range this time...

I like the orange and blue lighting on the girl, and the clipboard pic has some sweet pen work. the sitting figures' limbs are a bit longish, as are the guy holding sword aloft's arms.

    Indian warrior princess.
Just another portfolio piece. Had alot of fun on this one. So many changes occurred through out. I made my main goal, well first of all to try and make something interesting. But also I wanted strong design. So after a while of killing myslf, and some great advice from Dan Warren , I decided to keep my designs more grounded. I pushed myself hard on this one, and Im guna go even deeper on the next one.

p sage - Thanks man, hehe yeah I blame the neck strap thing on that Indian girl for that! I usually dont have too much trouble with necks.
Metal Fingers - Thanks dude, I took your advice on the elf. Didnt go to much further but at least hes a little more pleasing to look at now Glad you like the ogre man!
fudgeloaf - I fixed it all! I Think. There was too many comments saying all that so I had to go back haha. Thanks for telling me man! Really appreciate it.
SteFlack - Thanks so much I do feel like I understand this business better now, I just need to do my best and not worry so much heh.
ismo - Thanks dude! I have fear of being too under saturated with my colors... Which sucks because im almost sure I fully overcame that before and now its back!

Long time no post. Still been working hard though.

Got two new portfolio pieces, the rest are sketches.

Awesome Gerome study. How long did that one take?

Nice traditional stuff too. I like how confident you can get with your lines.

I'm trying to do more foundational drawing stuff with pencils nowadays too. Everything's just soo much harder without crtl+z.

lillian - Thanks so much Very kind of you to say!
conte - Thanks! wow you like my composition, I always feel like I have none! haha, its a very hard thing to be sure of, for me.
ismo - Took.... hmmm, a long time! I really wasnt counting or even thinking of it. It was probably too much time! hehe. Im also trying to be more foundational, for me its that I need to go slower I think.
    towy - I WILL!
fudgeloaf - Thanks man! Glad you like it. And cool stream the other night, hopefully will join in on another one soon.

Havent posted in a while! I havent been slacking or anything, but I do feel a new direction Im going to go now.
Its not much different really, but my aim is to complete alot more finished pieces that im happy with, these are going to take alot of preparation to get them how I want it.

(some images are too big, Il fix them tomorow...)

AllyAlbon - thanks alot! I will draw my dogs more, just for you hehe.

Man I need to start posting again!!
Im beating myself up alot for not posting. But its really not that bad, I mean Ive still been working, and whats 1 month of not posting? I suppose I got into a habit of doing it a couple times a week and that just makes me seem really active. Ugh fucking art politics hahaha. Anyway I think now Im just going to get back on top of it.
The annoying thing is I have trad sketches, digital paintings, and 3d work, and its hard to remember to post it all, or where I put it.

    Heres recent studies.

The statue im really happy with, mainly because I think its readable, and it didnt take me long at all. God bless the lasso tool. I finally put shortcuts for the lasso tool, inverse selection, and deselect on my nostromo. So its really fast for me to do stuff with the lasso tool now.
For the statue I also made a texture in zBrush and tiled it in photoshop, which Ive wanted to do for a long time. Very happy with how that came out, Il post more about that in the next one.

I did a 3d sculpt of the indian princess i painted. I was fixing some stuff with the bg and I thought Id make the head a little better too.

I love the sketchbooky/more illustrative stuff in your second-to-last post! (though I guess that was what, a month ago now?) Your gestures are awesome - they have so much movement and life!
Plus your studies, man. Epic sense of form and use of texture.
And speaking of epic, sweet pumpkin.
    Gahh.
    I must draw more...

I'd like to second logistic's request for your film still resource, by the way! I've been meaning to try doing a couple but can't find any. D:

Keep it up! Don't kill yourself about posting, but if you've got something, casualllyyy share it?

Really diggin' those movie studies man. Your edge handling is getting really good and the colors look very spot on. Impressive.

Teenage mutant ninja pumpkin's looking pretty damn sweet too.

Great sketchbook, seriously! I especially love your life studies where you use tone to your advantage. You also have a great eye for color in your photo and master studies. I'd like to see you incorporate more of what you learn during your studies into you concept work. Say you do a master study, in your next concept work you could try a similar way of lighting, color palette, composition, or something. Analyze while you study and make it stick in your mind by using the knowledge you have gained right away.
Keep up the brilliant work and have fun :3

it truly doesn't matter if you post or not IMO. As long as you are improving!

ide rather you be one of those people who post with solid improvement than one of the people who show consistent mediocrity!

you are growing fast. keep it up.

Actually it seems like a pretty impressive output to me! Great to see all the studies and character designs. No crits from me at this point other than encouragement to keep the good work coming!@
