Loving the way you study photos. Be careful, though, with obviating your 3d skills development. Your photostudies have a good tridimensionality feel, but I can't say the same about your works from life or imagination. Anyway, you're doing great. Keep up thje good work!

    Hi Malakuko

Cool stuff overall, I especially dig those compositional studies! In fact I think you could try and apply that to your own images

Hey man. Great to see you working hard. You have some really good stuff and I like how you're trying to apply what you learn. That chrome ball life painting is awesome. Did you actually paint the wood grain of that desk...?

About that piece you're working on now with the three characters, I have to say, the composition is really weak. I saw you did those Kekai thumnail composition studies, and was wondering if you tried thumb-nailing out that current piece? It looks more like you drew three characters and the composition was an after thought. Composition is definitely not my strong point, but I'd say it's very important in illustrations, especially with multiple figures.
Thumbnail it out very small and rough, and try looking up some strong basic compositions, like a triangular composition or something. Looking at old master work would probably help a lot too. Imagine what the scene in your head would look like if it was in a movie. That may help to imagine a more dynamic scene, as it stands now it looks like like a composition of someone taking a boring snapshot of a situation. Way too zoomed out (the characters are the focus no? Then being so far zoomed out isn't really adding to the mood) and no real focus on composition.
These are just my thoughts, I hope I didn't sound harsh, but hopefully that helps.

great studys man! keep track on that, it will help you alot man. even when it seems hard sometimes. what helpes me alot is to draw something once from a reference and thnat draw it from mind 3 times. you will remember alot with that method.

Man... why do I always feel so bad when I dont post on here haha.
I went to see Paul McCartney on the 12th He is god damn awesome! and he still has it. wow.
That long weekend totally threw me off course, took me ages to get my head back into the frame of mind where I can work at art all day. You know for me its like, I have to be ok with not seeing my friends and going out to do a fully productive day. And when suddenly I stop working and meet awesome people and start regularly hanging out with my friends its like my brain says fuck solitude and working at art, I wana go to gigs all the time and get drunk or high or whatever. And then I re-learn why I love art so much and the cycle continues lol. Anybody else have a similar experience?

BluezAce - Thanks man portraits are fun, especially since I learned the Vilppu way of drawing heads.

teapo - haha thanks dude, im in awe of that comment

Morgado- HAHAHA ahhhhhh good one, I will dont worry, haha.

Untouched24 - Hey, no sorry I couldnt get it right so I took a pic of my desk and applied the texture Im such a cheater! hehe. First of all, thank you for the advice! Really need on this one. About the zoomed out thing, I drew the characters and youre right about the composition being an after thought. The way I drew the background was the way Id draw a layout (background for animation). I wasnt really thinking it through lol, I just wanted to get an Idea for a bg. I took your advice and did some thumbnails, but I still dont really know what im doing. And I couldnt find much info on the subject, do you know any good books on it? Thanks again for the feedback man, highly appreciated.

Lateman - I know youre right, and you know youre right... but still, when those times come where you think studies arent helping its hard to be positive haha. I took your advice... sort of, I drew these weird creatures once from ref, then twice from imagination at different angles. Not really what you were getting at, but it worked its own magic. Was alot of fun too.

For an animation I put up on youtube

I dont know what he should be wearing.
I want him to look primitive ( since he is prehistoric) but I also want him to look like a fierce hunter. Il need to tweak his face to suit that later.
But basically the idea I was going towards as I went on was he kills all sorts of animals and wears them
So maybe the lion/ leopard/ bear outfit works best.

Happy birthday! Saw your post in the CHOW.

Those watercolours are sweet! I'm also diggin that profile self portrait.
On the Chow, it could have been good to use some reference for the light-shadow placement. Highlights seem a bit inconsistent in some areas. Anyway, you're a lot better than I in this issue.
    Great work!
