You landscape #198 is great o.O

And of course the last "still-life" is great too - close to the photo-realistic area.

    Just another Journey...

hey man ive not been to your sketchbook in way too long - you've posted loads since. And I have to say the rock landscapes are looking amazing (I'll definitely try that tutorial out later today!) The loomis style heads you and I are both trying are coming along well, and I would say that learning the planes is the easy but, but when you start rotating them it gets tricky so stick with it! Really nice avatar (very jealous) btw. Keep it up

E.C. Evil It's a salt and pepper shaker, and yeah they were fun to do.
    Papervampire Thanks
    Tasser Thanks
    Next Thanks
ThomasM Yeah, I try to post everyday now. And yeah, try that mountain out, also his brushes are very good. And I will start adn intensive head ting soon
    Ricardo Robles Thanks

More posemaniacs, anatomy, perspective and trying to paint a sphere from head, not just something that doesn't look flat, but a sphere, but I didn't do too well with that, so will have to do that more along with some other simple shapes. Also gray scale is shown.

I haven'T had the idea to practice that yet. But I'm sure it will follow in the next few weeks/months. Your works are good and you are willed to fix your problems, I like to take a look in you SB every time I do.

Hard work in here I like that, the more you put in your figure and anatomy studies the faster you will see results.
Don't lose the motivation and you'll improve, setting a goal for yourself is a good way to stay on track as well.

DK- Sketch - Thanks See you next time.
Tasser - Thanks, glad you like it
Danny_K Thanks, I will keep working hard.

    -Some figures and anatomy.
-More shapes, color and then grayscaled to test values.
-A study of a Sam Nielson image. Again confirming that values are the most important thing Mine didn't turn out as good, specially not the stuff on the mouth balloon, any idea of how to do it best, I have it on a soft light layer at the moment, but I think I tried most of the others as well.
    - More work on the night hunter, mostly refining the character a bit and cropping it to just focus on the character, mostly values for now.

The figure drawings are looking like their going pretty well and the life drawing should definitely be a big help. make sure to give a little more attention to the limbs that support the weight.(The legs generally have a higher priority than the arms)
heres a old demo on figure drawing that I like.
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...&postcount=193

For the basic form exercises did you leave out the reflected light on purpose? Also the cast shadow should generally have harder edges than form shadow and sharpest near the source/point of contact(diffusion).

A few more rambling thoughts on the rendering things. Animation can actually have some good example of readable light shapes and shadow shapes with 2-4 value pallets.
    http://screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/103/076.jpg
    http://www.avatarspiritmedia.net/scr...?ep=103&page=4

The same thing in fine art.
    http://www.sightsize.com/pix/castdrawing1.jpg
    http://www.sightsize.com/castdrawing.html

The light shadow shape on a sphere can be created with a ellipse, the cone light shape a simple triangle, etc.

Also on another point there would be ambient occlusion which causes creavices to take on the darkest values, the armpits/crotch are the big ones on the body.

Some thing else that works well is laying in all the light area with a large soft airbrush and then detailing with a harder round brush.

hopefully some of that will be helpful. keep pushing.

Your drawing abilities are really starting to improve! And that frog study is very, very good too. I don't have too much to say about the owl right now other than to remember the cast shadow of the spear wing onto the body.

Surfandsnow, thanks It wasn't on purpose I didn't include the reflected light, I'll do the exercises again, and study them first. All helpful, thank

Pixie Trick, thanks, I'll be sure to include that.

    Raminafshari, Thanks.

    -Some Bridgman anatomy
-Though I should try and use what I learned from that frog study, so made a sketch of my own design, not very original, I suck at coming up with these, so I think I have to work a lot more o that. the second frog is mostly from ref, I just thought it was interesting. But I'll try and paint the first frog and use what I learned from the study.
    - A painted anatomy study from photoref, tried again not to polish it too much, but I don't think it was a very successful study.

    DK-Sketch Thanks
Tasser Thanks, you are doing pretty well yourself

Today some posemaniacs, 30 secs and now 15 secs, I was getting way used to the 30 secs, now I'm back figures with no arms, but it also really forces me to make fewer lines, which I really need to to. So I'll do a page of these until I have the photorefs set up. Also did some figures from imagination.

And painted up that frog sketch from yesterday.

Wow your rendering is getting pretty slick (last frog) and your lines are more confident. Nice three point perspective study as well, could lead to some interesting scenes. Keep on running your improvement in overdrive, you're definitely on the right course.

    Monotony Thanks
Natzuur-JK Thanks, yeah I wanted to try to do a Chinese temple with the perspective studies, but thet aren't looking so good, but I might post my attempts later.
clOaked Thanks. That took way to long for what it should have, I think about 3 hours, but the face was done really fast in like 10 minutes so that looks even worse.

    A still life today

and me trying to do some creature designs, turned out pretty crap. and some anatomy from memory, I think I'm done with this torso front and back view for a while now.

    [Ste], Thanks
DK-Sketch Thanks, I like the first one better as well, but also spent longer on it. I do a page of the posemaniacs every morning, it turns out to be a lot .

More perspective today. Watched Scott Robertson dvd, Basic drawing, and tried to do all the exercises from memory, but I think I'll have to re watch the second part, since I think I messed up some of the drawings. Also went to see my parents new puppy today, tried to draw it, but that little thing wouldn't even lie still for 2 minutes while sleeping

Some 15 sec posemaniacs, a sketch for a personal and a wave study that didn't go too well.
