    Chow# 192

This is my first post on Chow, but I've been an observer for some time. Here is my Anarchist.

I just realized that I didn't use the attachment editor. I'm quite angry at myself....I really wanted to participate. Sorry about that..... I fixed my post, but my entry was late because of my goof! Good looking stuff everyone!

    Some cuts today:

    vertebra: No Wips, Named Incorrectly
    zoukka: No wips
    m0uS3r: No wips
    Noah7: No wips, Named Incorrectly
Abrodos: Off Brief - I'm sorry, but this just doesn't really cut it. I'm having a hard time reading any sort of character design from this. Also, if you want to do a crab (though that was already pushing the brief) make sure you study crab anatomy.
    zypherax: No wips

Overall, please please read the submission instructions. We have lots of new people every week, so please take the time to make sure you're submitting properly. I even posted a warning in the wips thread this week.

eh.... my entry was not a WIP...

that's how terrible my digital skills are, hence the reason I require IMPROVEMENT!!!
oh well, I shall try to do better next time, I require more studies of skin tones...

but that was not a WIP. sadly.

    zypherax, you misunderstand me. :]

I know it wasn't a wip. You are required to provide wips along with your final piece. You only provided your final.

Dammit I finished mine but missed the deadline. I get confused with american time. Is the deadline anytime on the date you say, or does it have to be there before the date?

Quick Check: Have You Submitted Your Chow Properly?

    - is it named correctly? (ie, "CHOW#100_Oregano.jpg")
    - has it been uploaded using the attachment editor?
    - have you also uploaded or linked to your wips?
    - have you followed the brief?

    Good luck!

    Great round Again

Thank you again to all you folks that keep this going every week! This is such a valuable resource for every one, at every level and hope that the rest of everyone gets the same enjoyment out of it wether they receive all the votes or none of them. Getting to see your work progress side by side with your peers leads to if nothing else, the ability to push and better yourself.

With that being said, there were some great concepts here, but in my mind the ones that captured the emotion of the subject as well as the personality required to make them believable are: Goocher, dwinbotp and my Favorite yoitisi! Grats to every one again!

    Destiny is re-written daily. ~

my votes went to janjager, goocher and disa.
there were alot of cool designs, but those were the ones that really had the attitude and posing to convince me they'd agitate people.

dude...it's in the very first post.
wips are to ensure you're not re-using an older piece.

m0uS3r: Even if you think I'm wrong, responding rudely is definitely not the way to point it out. Had you behaved in a more gentleman-like manner, the following post may not have been so blunt. Respect given is respect earned.

The Wips requirement is posted every week in the top post. Every week I cut people who don't put their wips in the poll, and I specify why. Some weeks I let them in, but I always point out if they forgot them.

I also posted in the main thread to point out that people had forgotten the rule.

Wips are required because we've had problems with people submitting old work and paintovers in the past.

Rude behavior is not welcome here, so check the attitude or I'll block you from the Chow Forum.

zypherax: Even just a sketch is fine. If you post wips in the main forum anyway, all you need to do is link to them in your submission post.

AzureLure: It has to be there before the deadline, my time. If you are worried about the deadline, try to make sure that you've submitted a day early - you can always keep editing your post and update it with new versions if you do more work on it.

I am so stupid!!! I thought I could only cast one vote!!! Sorry!
I voted for Goocher, as he managed to interpret the concept perfectly and present it to the viewer in a very straightforward way.

Great job to all...and on to the next one.

    Cool round!
    I voted for:
    Pixeltuner
    Yoitisi
    Goocher
    Nram

Lots of good stuff on a technical aspect but I didn't vote cos I feel they didn't really portray what the brief was about.
That said I realise my entry wasn't exactly the clearest and most representative of the brief either.

Great CHOW guys, I knew I wouldn't have time to complete this.

Yoitsi you're the only one I voted for, your drawing just stood out not just in comparison to the others who finished but compared to any other work I've seen from you. IMO you upgraded big time with your piece, I liked it from the very start. Congrats!

Veshkau: Great work, I liked your character a lot too. Your art is very recognizable by the forms which is a good and a bad thing and I think you should explore other designs perhaps. That being said this is also the first time I see you use color and I must say your usage of the skin tones was excellent. The main reason I didn't vote was because of the "shoes". They simply looked unstable to me and not like they'd be able to hold her up. I liked your male variant when you started your concepting too.

Goocher: Also awesome work, the legs of the character on top didn't quite work for me though, also I think you could've sharpened it up a bit more with some extra highlights. I feel stupid giving such critique because it's better than anything I can do. At the end Yoitsi's work simply stood out more that it warranted a single vote in this CHOW. Congrats on the awesome piece.

There was some really good stuff here- rather hard who to choose who to vote for. Though, when it comes to an instigator, an anarchist, and someone who is against all forms of government, I have a very fixed view on what/who that is. Yotisi came close- lovely rendering and really had the vibe of someone 'ra ra fight the power', but I didn't find a ton of things that set him apart. Goocher and Carnifax, also great choices- but they lacked the vibe I was looking for. My vote went to Ithoual- and his awesome robotic arm. It really was a close call though, guys. Cheers all around.

I second Psychotrope - many great renderings here but most of them missed the point and put emphasis on fancy design elements rather than rendering the characters personality and storytelling.

    My votes go for:
Ithoual: I love the simplicity and the facial expression. Tons of personality here. The robotic arm is also a nice touch though it looks a bit too bright and smooth. It kinda competes with the main focus of the pic (the face)
Darklogik: I love the color scheme and the whole conspiratory look and storytelling. Some smaller flaws here-and there: The right hand looks weird, also the left arm looks a bit misplaced, but it's not so distracting. I love the overall mood of you pic.
Yoitsi: Great colors and gesture. Only crit: The bacground figures should have been even less rendered (or more blurry) 'cause in their current state they look a bit fake.
