I'm running a 1.33 ghz Powerbook G4 with 512MB of ram and Painter 8.1 seems to be chocking up when working on a 200MB flle.
I generally work on images roughly 11x14 at 300 dpi that are destined for inkjet output.
Any suggestions for keeping my machine from slowing down to the point that its too slow to work on?
RAM - Will help a lot - I have 1024mb in my laptop (alienware) and it has not slowed down yet - mind you my processor is 3.2 ghz with HyperThreading - but RAM helps a lot

In addition to more RAM, see my thread named Keeping Painter 6, Painter 7, and Painter 8 Running Smoothly
Thanks, Jin, I'll take a look at that thread.
Morlok: I know more RAM is better, but I'm working on the same size files in Photoshop elements, with multiple layers, and I can still listen to iTunes while having Safari and Mail open without the computer bogging down noticeably.
Is Painter that much more of a resource hog?
