hey man thanks for stopping by my book-

as far as crits - id say on many of your studies ...im assuming you are doing them from ref or model.....the lines seem darker in tone...a bit more confident than in your own personal stuff from imagination.....i would say try to bridge that gap.....if even to mimick the same line strokes you are doing in your studies......the sureness of strokes will catch.

id also suggest doing more planar studies....simple shapes ,volumes.....mastering the box at different angles....just do drills....take a box and tumble it through space on the page...drawing all the different angles...then go onto distortions and pushing other basic shapes into the boxes......

    i guarantee two things....

one it will tweak your mind to the point of hair pulling trying to wrap your head around it
and two you will improve many levels in shape understanding....

i still do the drills and its still a challenge for me...a bit easier sometimes

    Hey bro

Okay, you asked for tips on construction, I'm probably not the best person to ask... but, it's just basic shapes, draw the front and side planes with dark lines, and then suggest the back lines of the form with really light ones.. But yeah, don't look at any of my work, it completely sucks in that department! Unlol. =) Really like the rhythym in your sketches, keep working toward better and better line quality bro, and keep having fune! =)

Hey sweeney, the sketches are looking good but you might want to slow down and take your time with them (not sure how you fast you draw). Check out Marko Djurdjevic's line quality video on youtube to see what I mean. Your lines are kinda hasty at the moment. There's no rush in art.
Anyway, keep up the volume of work and the Ron Lemen studies you did are pretty good. You should also flesh out your chars more since the clock-themed guys in the previous page show lots of promise. Draw draw draw!

Goldy looks good in those sketches, you like a lost and found approach with your lines, they are very well done. I know what she looks like even if she's annoying, hwhaa! =)

This looks too flat imho, http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1282873252, try drawing through that shape you've already established, with some light lines, in order to explain the back side.

    Have fun! =)

hey kungfoowiz thanks for taking the time to give some thoughtfull crit and for adding my sb in your signiture =] im glad you like the dog sketches i kinda liked them as well. as far as the image that looks flat the reason for that is because i didnt plan ahead on the whole image i just kinda drew what i thought should be there as i went so the smaller less impostant stuff in the background is just as dark and has the same amount of detail as the stuff in the forground as well as all the major shapes have a pretty solid outine around them without much shadding to support the forms within the outline... so basically if i was going to do anything more with this i would have to go back and redraw it so my values were a little more organized and render it out with shading more and use less of an outlline

    Hey man

Appreciate the experimenting.. that is a cool idea to combine pencils and ink..

Could maybe look at the lips on the old lady in the middle page, but as studies.. I think they're pretty good, really shows how you are shading well.

    Impressive

Interesting style you got here, I'm a bit partial to cleaner lines, but your method is also wonderful. Your ink/pencil experiments look very good, I gotta try some of that myself. What I've observed from these last page, is that you could use some studies on facial features and their placements, since you seem to struggle a bit with that, i.e the eyes seem a bit off on some of these. And again, really interesting style. Hope to see more from you soon!

Hey bro, great work, haven't see you in a bit.. =) Mmm, shading and form making is pretty awesome, no real complaints, just maybe a bit of correction around the eyes sometimes as Mordischen was saying but overall very good imho, keep up the nice studies. =)

Thanks for dropping by my SB sweeney

Man, your grasp on anatomy is awesome! I especially like the recent ones done in pen. Esp. the Bridgman studies.

I also like the male anatomy studies in post #303, the first few. There's one later on that's a bit disproportioned, but your gestural linework is pleasant to look at.

Speaking of which, I'll have to upload my figure drawings as well, since you commented about them in my SB. The only thing stopping me is because I have a lot of them. In fact, take a look at some of the mid pages in my SB. I've heard of people's browsers crashing cause of the image heaviness on those pages. And it's also a general pain to photo/scan them, edit them to fit browsers, and then attach them individually to posts. And I've got like 2 full sketchbooks of figure drawings. Not looking forward to that!

But anyway, lovely portrait of Rembrandt. I forsee great things from you .

"Never regret thy fall from grace, O' spirit of Icarian flight, for the greatest tragedy of them all to face, is to never feel the burning bright"
Believe my lies, for I tell the truth about them. Or would you rather me lie about telling the truth?

Pretty good, some careful study here, I particularly like the first one in line. Mmm think you could maybe push the values one or two steps darker in your Sargent though, it's a good drawing still though. Have a guud one.. =)
