Love that landscape. The amount of negative space is a really nice reprieve from the amount of detail in the architecture (which is also great)--nice balance there. I don't have much of a critique for it at this stage, to be honest XD (Also--really liking the faint outline of the airship coming out of the clouds--again with the balance. It was a great decision to add some a bit more interest to that sky).

Also, I don't think that simple is necessarily boring. Your Automaton looks pretty good as far as I can tell. Especially if you consider the original C-3PO design, and especially his redesign in the prequels--very simple, very functional, but still solid designs.

Functional is boring?! Nonsense! Less is More, Form Follows Function etc.!

bare witness to the sickness... that last icestation thing on the last page blew my mind all over the place. my layer management is shocking when it comes to line work. do you bring all of your lines back to their vps and then tidy up and then build more structures on top on another layer? if that makes any sense. keep up the gw!

GEB Thanks man, glad your liking it all.
Sebastian Yeah, he turned out much better than I expected when I painted him up. Still wish he had a strong form of silohuette somehow though.
Meps Yeh its not too bad, like I said above though, he just needs a more distinct shape somewhere. Thanks, I was channeling a bit of Moebius in that piece as usual, he's so good when it comes to economy of space.
Mactire It does in this case though, he's just missing that little spark is all. Thanks though.
dog-faced Haha, thanks man. With lineworks, I just work out the big shapes using the 3d as a base. And then rest comes in easily. With that 3d base, I find doing perspective very easily, it was pretty much all 1 layer of lines.
If I was freehanding it though, I would do a layer of rough line with all the VP stuff in it, then a new layer with clean stuff on top.

    Finished painting this bad boy.
His design is still bugging me a bit. But I enjoyed painting this and I think it looks pretty good.

Hey Andy just a thought on your last piece with regard to improving the silhouette. How about making the telescopic eye on that side protrude out a little to break the side of the face? Might add a little interest to the left of his head and will help show the eye is telescopic and looking at the skull. Choose to ignore if you think it's jibberish, I won't be offended.

Hey Marian Thanks a lot, I made a few tweaks before I sent him off. I think it was just his overall silhouette was a little too boring. Nothing exciting proportion wise or an interesting shape in his body. Oh well. Thanks though.

Just playing around with some new stuff. Also portfolio work.
Made up from photos of guns chopped up, move about and reworked. About 25% photos Id say. Mainly just helped me get the main gun/barrel area looking good. Then I just got bits of anything like grips/helicopter parts and stuff to build the rest. I might do another and take it all the way to a nice full size painting.

Nice job with incorporating your 3D into 2D. The guns look great, and I think I will steal your workflow with them. Just again I would say that given how nice they look as an asset, if you presented them with a bit more design fervor you could make them much more interesting. I attached an image from Karanak who does a great job with such things.

jedininjaman Yeah man, Karanaks work looks so good. I was looking at it the other day. When I put the work together in my portfolio I might try putting it all together nicely. Thanks man.

I might try making something in 3d as well. I really think I could do with trying it atleast. Spent some time make this one a little tighter.

Thanks for love guys, glad you like it all.

Well this one, maybe not so much.
Something about this, bugs me. REALLY badly, I just have a really bad feeling towards this one. And I have no idea why. I wish I could go back in time and redo it, so wouldn't have wasted so much time. I just feel like something was bad from the beginning, I just didn't have any thought of what it was going to be, and it shows.
Just gonna jump into another piece as soon as I can I guess, do something better.

    dude, you're f*cking machine!

really liked the big-ass spaceship landing, nice composition, would deserve to be pushed forward. The steampunk c3po is really well painted.I probably would have exaggerated the proportions a little bit to make the design more interesting and pushed the rendering on the metal bitsto make it feel less "velvety".All the guns look super time and professionaly executed, and i would love to see more work on that steampunk beach-station.Would look great with the same palette of HL2 beach level!.
Always cool to see what you've been up to, keep up the good work!
