    phizpietl-Whoa dude, thanks for stopping by and yea, I'll keep that in mind.
    Heres some more stuff done on this dude, I've got some other colors in the works but those will have to wait until tomorrow, not sure what works and what doesn't that I just added but I feel like this render is a huge improvement on the crap I was pooping out 2 months ago.     Alright well, its weekend before finals, I've been all crazy, heres a poop study from tonight, really need to push myself more, sooo many things are wrong.     Arh shit, finals can really fuck one up. Kill 'em, kill em good.
    Pumpkin study looks good, yet it appears flat because of the strokes to the left going over the shadow. You need to define its shape more as well. The hard edge of the shadow crossing it adds to the flatness, and so does the lighter edge you seem to have around the whole vegetable. Some more attention to molding it with shadows trying to define it's volume and it'll turn out goooooood.

    As for the imaginary piece, Try to find a photo of a person portrayed from the same angle and with similar lighting. The problem here is not the colour but the values. I find lighting to be the hardest part of painting, I don't even know shit about it yet, but good attention to light and shadow is what makes a piece look awesome.

    Uh that's probably supposed to be an onion not a pumpkin... but agreed... the shadow doesn't help the form... the light is confusing, and the shadow makes it read as flat.

    Do studies of white spheres with Rembrandt (45 degree) lighting. It will help.

    This is really showing a lot of improvement. The monster drawings are looking great. Keep working on the proportions of the legs but you're doing good.

    Cool work man, keep studying anatomy and those creature sketches will definitely make a leap forward. On the colored creature I'd suggest to define more the general light and shadow masses. I mean, now the lightest part of the head has the same value as the lightest part of the belly, legs, etc, and the same with the darks. Be sure to have a general light/shadow idea before starting to define the local values.

    It's great to be dedicated to those studies, but I get the feeling that you're going through the motions in the end, since they don't seem to be really applied fully in your original designs. How about changing each iteration up instead of doing series from the same angle?

    Also do you draw on your side [how would you call it]? Some pictures are a bit skewed xD

    Tabnir-Thanks for stopping by! Yea I have been really struggeling with trying to figure out if I'm really cementing this stuff in my brain or, like you said just telling myself I'm doing great as I go through the motions. I think a lot of it was school got really intense towards the end of the term and I was like fuck, I need to draw, but then it was like fuck I don't have enough time! But, thanks for paying attention to that and pointing it out, I'll definitely try and implement some of your suggestions. Also I think the skewed angles comes from the tilted scans, although I've always had a slight problem with skewed images, I really should try and amend that! Thanks again and Cheers.
    Well here is some quick poop from head, the trains and stuff were drawn in class without rulers so they ended up real sloppy, they were for a trivial project so I wasn't really motivated to invest a lot time and make them all awesome. I also realized that I really suck at a lot of aspects of industrial design. Also tried to rework the onion a little bit, I think I cooked up the other one so I think I'll have to settle with starting a new study. Man blah blah blah I talk a lot, on with the pictures. As always, thanks for looking and crits are needed very much, all the time. CHEERS.

    You're losing the onion in the shadow... there should be some reflected light from the table in the cast shadow side, and the shadow on the table should be lighter.

    One of the things I've learned about shadows is that you never make them as dark as you see them, because if you do it will look like a hole. You need light to describe form on a 2D surface, so if it doesn't look right in real life, either re light it... or "invent" lights of your own.

    I disagree with P sage on one area, there are very dark moments sometimes in objects. The reason it's looking flat it because of the lack of relfected light as he said, your shdaows stays the same value for far to long. If something looks like that in real life take a closer look... It's not!!! It's changeing, and its always changeing. Values, saturations, hues, there always changeing and shifting into another. If you do keep a value the same for to long, it is not suggesting the space. You are suggesting that point A in the space is in the same location as point B.

    Oh lol, it's an onion. And I thought it was a pumpkin P-sage nailed it about the shadow. Bouncelight defines shape in shadows, and also, there's still the edge to the left that's brighter than the actual surface receiving more light, which makes the onion appear flat.

    Hope you don't mind this quick and sloppy paintover. Basically what i did was colorpick the brown outside of the shadow and make it define the spherical shape of the onion within the shadow aswell as adding a shadowy outline instead of a brighter to add to the roundness and remove the flatness. Notice the change?

    btw, took your suggestion about beer to heart and gave some Dragons beer. They love you for that. They're all like "Thanks MetalFingers mate! beer is awesome! .. btw dude, got any weed?"
    I told them they shouldn't be smoking.. turns out they are very self-aware and due to the sulfurous nature of their inside they described themselves as "the epitome of smoking" and threw me out the window.
