    Critique on my underpainting?

photo of set up included. When I measure from the setup, it looks like the rocking horse is the same distance outward as from the base of the candle holder to the wall, but here it obviously looks much too small. What do you think?

    Any cropping suggestions?

Judging from the photo (if that's how you're viewing it in person) then the rocking horse needs to be enlarged more. Pay attention to where it lies other than in relation to the wall (the clock for instance. Horse's head needs to be further right of it, and it's tail is nearly on level with the rocking stand).

clocks a bit big also, you may want to tighten it up now instead of waiting to go into the overpainting, right now my process is draw on a paper 1 to 1 canvas size, with a 3 horizontal/vertica grid lines, in the drawing I do a loose compstudy, block in (basicly loose this is this big etc), 1 pass drawing, 2nd pass drawing, perhaps a value study and then transfer it to a canvas, its easier then trying to fix things in paint. I have found it to actually save alot of headaches and heartache later. it takes about a day or 2 longer to finnish the piece, but once its in oil its like that forever.

Both wonderful suggestions. I was considering just adjusting when I began to paint, but I see the flaw in that now, thanks.
