It seems you have a better eye for environments than you do for characters- your landscapes seem to be a bit more successful. I'd suggest lots of anatomy studies studying planes and forms. Really try to imagine what you're drawing in 3 dimensions and transfer it into 2 dimensional shapes. Good progress- keep it up :]

"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed

Believe it or not, you have leveled up a lot since your first post.

Keep up the good work, hit those figure studies though.

The Pariano: Cheers man. Yea I know my figures really need some work, and i honestly want to get to it! unfortunately at the moment I'm swamped with work for my final project at school so I've got no time to draw except for quick doodles

Koh: haha cheers! yea I had a look back at the first page the other day, egh there's some pretty average stuff there now. yea i know I really need to work on those figures, wish i had more time in the day!

Hers something a little different. last year I sanded down my old skateboard and did some spray painting for some fun. AUTOBOTS ROLL OUT! I think I'll have to do a decepticons one to match it (And yea look at that awesome teddy!).

    I've had this on repeat

Try pushing your environments, maybe do some odd shapes, form something from them, or approach it differently,I think you're not progressing as fast as you'd like because you're not pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. These enviros look the same, and it's just portraits. try some full body stuff...maybe work with pencils, study form and lighting, build up your objects, etc...

Keep working, and don't give up. Nice 3d model by the way.

    ...the imperfections make it interesting...

That matte painting is wicked. I can't quite figure out what is the matte and what is the painting. Regarding your characters you seem to know where you are heading technically pretty well so I'll disregard that. But if I had to say something it's that for some reason they are very puppetlike.

Have them express and act a bit more and I believe you'll flush that stiffness right out.

Senna was a truly inspirational movie for me. I just finished this piece of Ayrton Senna as he's been stuck in my head. I havnt spent this long on a picture for a long time, maybe around 3 hours. If you havn't seen the movie 'Senna' i highly recommend it.

Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose.

That Show reel video is really really cool. The Senna piece is also a great leap forward for you. It kinda reminds me of the old Pc and Amiga game art.

hey oates, just dropping in. that portrait from Senna is amazing! colors are really accurate, that grainy brush gives a nice effect too.
I can definitely empathize with you on the frustration with portraits/etc from head. all I can say is to keep working it though! your environments are looking really sweet, I like the one back in post 157..the faster doodles you have are nice too, but I want to see you push more finished ones

Been very busy with work and video games + my hard drive died along with some personal work hence lack of posting.

I shall try and make up for that:

Quick alien concept in zbrush, about 45min

And a time-lapse of the creation.
