I thought it's high time to return the favor so I came to see your SB this time I usually take this seriously, I don't spend my CA life in Critique Center (as a critic only) for no reason I realized I became a harsher critic than before (but I'm really cruel only with myself) but I hope you can stand me, I usually think over thoroghly what I say and I wish to help.

I know most about heads so I say a few words about those. I'm not good enough at heads myself (but I did some that I was almost pleased with, from easy angles of course) so I can relate to your problems.
Farther eye in 3/4 view: you don't draw its shape correctly. You did at least one study about it but you still do it wrong in your own drawings. The farther corner of it turns away from us, it even disappears sometimes. Photos are tricky because eyelashes and mascara do their best to hide this.
You tend to draw huge foreheads, it makes your faces strange.
The proportion study in #194 has this problem too. I personally think the head is too pear shaped, it's not so round with some little chin attached to the basic ball.
He has huge eyes and curvy brows, it's combined with the too little nose/brow distance makes the bottom of the eyes and that of the nose very close.
I experienced measurements often came into my way, it's better placing features in a more spontaneous, tentative way... It's better than making two distances that are theoretically the same very different. I'm bad with this and it seems you too. Being more easy, spontaneous, playful, even when you construct something seems to be a good approach to me. (And of course, every face has its different proportions It's not so hard to draw a face that works. It's hard to draw a face that resembles someone *sigh*)

I like your new gestures Keep it up!

And forgive me for my blurb I can't communicate in a different way if I have more than some basic fact to say.

Oh I couldn't resist. Forgive my crappy linework, brush choice and general lazyness, my point still should get through

Ohhh sry guys for NOT updating.
I feel sooo bad when i see all these comments and then my VERY small work i have done...
I had to do so much for school and was 2 days ill.
    Now i am back.
But beside of this, i think that this break helped me too to get my battery full again.

    So here we go!

tasser Yeeeeeeeeeeah dude! I will definitely keep this up! Nothing more to say, we already talked via icq.

Jiri92 But i wasted 6 days without really drawing! You can't call this working hard! But thank you, you are welcome!

devastacio Thank you. At the moment i am trying to overcome my fear with drawing without reference. Doing loosy sketches, non reffed stuff, sketchbook stuff and so on!

shiNIN Awesome O_O Thank you thank you thank you!!! Really great. Now i really now where my weak points are. I need to read your post tomorrow again, atm i am so weary Can't use all this information so weary.
But thank you thank you thank you!

Bethany K. Thanky you! Great you are all helping me with my faces! I hope i will recognize it in my next drawing!

    ----------------------------------

Whuuu, so much comments while i was lazy!
Great to see that people are still looking in my sketchbook, even when i am not updating every day ;D
And this does NOT mean i am going to stop updating daily..

Here are my 2 little sketches i had done in 6 days! Haha!
Yes, it is allowed to laugh

See you this evening again, now i need to go to bed...

    Yo Man!
Six days, yeaaaa you wanted to slack a little bit,
but I forgive you, cause you are back with some new studies.
I wanted also to update yesterday, but I did not managed to
write all the replies that I planned, so I guess i will do it this evening.
Oh, nice new studies you did, I hope that you
    will post more today.
    See you later.

hey, thanks for droppin by my sketchbook. good to see you workin hard not quite at the agenpfleger output level, but who is? haha anyway, your values are lookin pretty good at this point but i think you need to work on your drawing a bit. a good thing to practice with is still lifes or just anything with simple subject matter. just focus on simpler subjects but really try to make sure everything matches as close it can be and your drawing will improve pretty quickly. also, dont be afraid to use some color keep it up!

    Hey buddy, what's up?
I see that you have posted your last painting successfully,
so that means that you have cracked how pictures are posted?

There is a few lesser flaws on the last one, for example
the head is a bit small, and the rendering is not quiet good.

I will have two links for you, the first one will be very useful for
    this occasion.

    Chuck,mate's short tutorial
    http://conceptart.org/forums/showpos...0&postcount=40

Some other painting materials and stuff tutorial, very useful,
maybe a bit advanced, but take it easy, there is plenty of time
    learning all this;

Just remember to use the studies you've done when doing a picture from reference. I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

As you see on the picture i started playing "World of Warcraft" around the 16th decembre.
2 of my friends just started playing this game again on a privatserver. We already played there 1 or 1 1/2 years before, but stopped.
Don't ask me how, but we started again.
The complete time during the ~16th and now i only played this damn game with my friends. Not even a small piece of art!
This game really tooks your life if you aren't strong enough.

Even if i am not doing art, every night i get motivated. Also this night.
Watched the "Sixmorevodka Made" video (asskicking video by the way ) and then realized that i need to uninstall this game and delete everything what has to do something with it.
I want to get back to art because this really makes fun and it is real. It isn't something virtual which can't be dead from one moment to the other.

I start working about noon today again.
My goal for this new year isn't that big. I just want to get good improvement in art and finding my own way and style in drawing. I am going to stop comparing myself to other artists because this is MY art journey and MY work
I just want to get a good fundament for my own journey.

    Now i go sleep finally.
I am happy that this game is away from my life again.

    Greetings, Silwynar

PS: It will be ass kicking updates! I promise you!

Congratulations on the insight. The first step allways is to realize one has a problem. Unfortunatley one can´t uninstall the internet but I occasionally unplug it to kee myself from distractions. The problem with games are the "instant gratification" modus they set up. The core of all addictions.

I congratulate your dedication and the boldness with how you go forward and talk about it on a forum that basically is filled with gamers. But also with artists who know how much time art and learning art and honing those skills take. Be sure hat you have a lot of support.

Now get cracking, we wanna see those promised updates.

bbwolf First, thank you for your comment I am really happy to that i left the game behind. I am a gamer to i think, but not World of Warcraft anymore. I will continue playing normal little games with my friends. Because these games aren't taking my life This all sounds so freaking strange, but it is true.

    ---------------------------------------------

Here is the promised update for today!
I am happy with the work i made today. Especially the concept with charcoal is really nice in my opinion.

First i did small 3d exercises to get back into drawing again and then i moved on with watching Vilppu's gesture video.
After that i did a few gestures and finally drew this concept.
I like charcoal because it is a bit random. You can see nice forms in it because the values are very different if you want it.

Can't wait for tomorrow to work again! Now i go sleep that i am full of power for tomorrow!

    Greetings, Sil!

interestingly enough I too did the same thing as you recently. I installed wow to play cataclysm. The first time I had played in months and months. I played almost 3 days solidly with my friend and then decided to delete it from the computer and get back to artwork. Probably the best decision I made last year so well done for doing it yourself.

I like the art, nothing to crit really just keep on working away and really squeeeze every hour of the day into producing artwork. Even a spare five minutes while waiting for a friend to leave the house can be spent drawing.

    Good luck!

    Hey hey,

Good that you are back in business and glad to hear you are free from WOW addiction. I had the same thing for DotA some time back. I just wasted so much time with that sh*t. glad i completely removed it from my pc and started drawing. I play some games here and there when im bored but definitely not gonna touch Online multiplayer games.

Well now that you are back just try to practice and update daily. noting to mention yet , just keep drawing. ill visit later.

I was wandering, where the hell did you disappeared, when you disappeared.
You left me here on the battlefield without any cover, and it is a big fortune
that I survived till now. Good to have you back. I understand all about the
world of warcraft game, I never played it myself but I know all about it, and
the addictivity that can evolve by playing it.
Listen, everyone from us went that phase through earlier in our lives, some
of us went that through more than once. But the most important thing is
that you do not get caught up, trapped forever in that phase. I think that
you have got away from it successfully, you just do not get to it back again.
Art is much more fun, and it is made for the creative ones and not for slaves.
Very satisfied that you have started you steam engines again, I know that
you are a worthwhile warrior, so I hope that we will go in many battles together
    in the future.
    Take care and keep posting.

ThomasM Great decision! It is good that art won against all the computer games (which are still nice ). Thank you for your comment!

Sivonja Thank you for having your support! You are right online games are getting the person everytime. I suggest every people out there to not start playing online games if they don't have a very good self-discipline!

devastacio Great to see that you are visiting my sketchbook over and over again. Thanks for your support! I play Dota too, it is a nice game but no game i would spend every time on. If i don't like to draw or something else is just play one round and then its fine again. This game is not like WoW for me

LtPlissken i am so soooooorry dude that i left you alone! I am glad that you survived without me. I promise i will keep my support to you from now on! I hope i finally got away from this game!
And here we go dude! Updates!
I am really happy about your support. You are just awesome )

    ----------------------------------

Here is the uuuuuupdate for today!
I am happy that people are still supporting me after being away for such a long time because of such a crazy thing...
    Thank you all !

Today drew one figure from imagination. Only one time i needed a small ref. I am happy how it turned out. I know there are still a lot of mistakes and i still need to learn a lot but i am happy that my figures from mind are coming along too. If i compare this to the figures i have done a year before O_O
Crazy But not good enough for me!!!
And then some more gestures. I tried to do them more like Vilppu does but this seems a lot harder to me. I think i just have to keep practicing them!

And in this evening this awesome guy named Faust showed me a few 3d exercises via Paintchat. It was an awesome lesson and i learned a few things!
Perhaps i will do a few from them tomorrow.

    HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! *YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!*

See you tomorrow you awesome people!
With a crazy good update again!

Hey i like these, as they got some nice, smooth flow lines. This is something i never tried out. gotta try it out once i finish the anatomy lessons.

The first picture looks cool. the right arm shape little off near the armpit. The left arm is in a odd perspective to me. maybe its the way you shaded it. pay some attention there.

well. keep on going like this mate. itll pay off.

devastacio You again! Thank you, thats awesome! Yeah i didn't really know how to handle her left arm. Gotta push more perspective foreshortening! I hope it is called like that.

Parsakoira Haha! Nice way to don't get addicted to a game! Saying after the first minute "shit" GReat! Thank you for your comment.

    ------------------------------------

Here is my update again. Really small update because i spend the whole day for getting informations update oil colors I read websites, i met my "teacher", i asked friends, ....
Gotta buy a few tomorrow because i want to get some traditionell media.
Acrylics are drying to fast in my opinion. Even with retarder =(
I hope i will like it.

Today i drew just two fast figures from mind. Really COMPLETE without reference.
There are errors at every party. Really need to do more! O_O

So see you tomorrow. I don't know whether i am going to update tomorrow because i have a lot of things to do.

    hi!
I will mention just a few random anatomy issues, okay?
    The sitting girl in #220:
Her left breast and the top she are wearing aren't in perspective... poor breast is way too low anyway, the girl raises her arms, therefore her pectoralis major muscles and her breasts are lifted as well.
Her face (I don't comment its practically nothingness, I almost always fail to draw faces when I draw bodies and I mainly draw faces and love them and I'm best with them, wth?) is too little, the eyes should be much higher.
Her legs start too low on her torso, I see her right thigh gets wider and wider above the knee then stops doing that. Bad idea, it should be even more wider when reaches the torso.

I start to get seriously tired... I guess you know feet aren't your strong point... Feet are hard to draw and the girl's left one has a not so easy angle but you can make another messed up one better easily in #223 (right figure, right leg), you just need to stick out her heel, no way it would merge with the rest of the leg this way even if it somewhat turns toward us... Hmmm maybe I should have let you alone for a while regarding feet, whatever, it just bothered me.

Oh and grats! Gaming can be a source of inspiration but addiction kills everything else and it's a sad thing, we need variety in our life and artists and artist wannabes have to practice and create things
    Best wishes!

Try to not draw realistic things from imagine , if u draw from imagine then made them unreal , if u want to draw something realistic use ref. even if u made sketches ....draw from imaginary is realy hard job ....leave it for later ...btw those doodles on #220 is very very good i love them.

shiNIN Ohhhhhhh thank you! Thats awesome! Finally one who gave me a ass kick to work harder and mentioned my problems! Really really thank you!
First when i read this i didn't know whether i should be happy or not but now i am happy that you gave me this critique. Thanks! I will start working on hands and feets too!

Sivonja No! no! noooo! Even if i am failing like hell actually with these non-ref figures, i will keep practicing! It is MY dream to be able to draw good figures from mind so i need to work on it every time! Figures from imagination are good to check what you learned, to apply anatomy and just to have fun1
I am not giving THIS up!
But thank you! I like those doodles too :>

    -------------------------------

Couldn't get the time to update yesterdy because i finally went in an Art Store (Boesner) and bought some oil colors, turpentine, linseed oil and a palette knife.

I didn't do that much with oil since yesterday, only a few small practices but this evening i started my first "big" still life.

My first impression of oil colors is just great! I like to work with them.
Yeah, the time until they dry is sometimes long, but it is a really nice advantage too. I can blend and blend aaaaaaaand blend the colors togehter!
I can even stop working for 2-6 hours and then work again without noticing anything

Bought also a book "Fill your oil paintings with light & color" which looked great via "Take a look (from amazon) and had good reviews.
Tomorrow it will arrive i hope.

So, first of all, my table with all my things i got, the first experiments with oil and the still life i started working on

See you tomorrow with more progress on the oil painting and (i hope) some hand and feet studies.

I was also ready to give you some crits on the lady in #220, but
I saw it later that shiNIN already teared that apart, so I guess you know
    all about it.
Congratulation on your start with oils. I see that you
already have fun with it, so I wish you best of luck in your further exploration,
and I hope to see the finished version as soon as possible.

Hey, here is a man who is very good with oils, so you can
talk with him, he gave me some great advices, take a look at his
    work, he will surely be willing to help you;

    Hey Sylwin,

Good clean sketchin on the frog. For the figures from the mind, try to start off with some simple primitive shapes first like spheres and boxes as a base from which to develop the limbs and such. Even if its a quick sketch it can still add some solidity to the figures.

And thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. When I get the chance I'll look over some of your previous pages to see your progression.
