I thought I should create a new thread for 2010, hopefully this year will be a very fruitful year for all the creatives out there! Hmm, There wasn't much response during the first time, so hopefully people will react more positively to the new art here. Please show some love yeah! Nuff said, here goes... Comments and Crits are welcome
(I am a beginner in forum postings, if there's any advice to post better please share it with me..)

That's some pretty imaginitive stuff you have there, and you did a great job with each one if I do say so myself.

AHem it's been some time, and there's no respond at all... It is a bit disheartening to know that not many people digg these arts... but nevertheless I shall keep posting, at for the sake of my own improvement in art, and for those who quietly view this gallery

Freeza, is it meant to look feminine like that? Its been a long time since I watched DBZ?

Also I really like the Okami piece. I don't watch anime much so I'm not familiar with it, but the pose of the dog is really cool.

well, freeza do really look a little feminine, but that's cos its japanese design, you don't get to see many burly muscular guys. Still, he is an awesome character

A traditional medium, colored pieces, its been ages since I did that, can't believe how fun and annoying it is!! In these pictures are my friends, they are drawn live one by one for about 20-30 mins. Some of the elements like watercolor washes are done at home, the rest are applied live with the portrait. (I hate how long it takes for the paints to dry...can't believe we used to paint like that last time). For such work, markers are the medium to go!

    Question

hmm its quite disheartening to see not many ppl digging my work.... but never mind, post still i will!

A fan art for Jace Beleren the planeswalker, a character form Magic the Gathering. I read the Agent of Artifice novel, and found his story pretty cool, so i decided to make a fan art for him.

When creating this piece, I went to try out the concept of images within an image, thus making the final image greater than he sum of its parts itself. The idea is to be able to separate Jace and the sphinx into 2 different card art. I find this interesting, its like making 3 art with the effort of 2 lol (C'mon wizard of the coast, HIRE ME!!!)

I did a wallpaper veersion one for Jace and another for the sphinx, but they are in my deviantart account, for those who really wants it...

Luffie in 2013: Angels Dragons, Demons and more!

I'll post the wip soon, gotta edit the pictures cos my flickr account is reaching its limit....

I think you could push your colors to be a little more saturated. The Mechanus Priest is the most successful work as far as color is concerned. It immediately reads. The weakest is probably Freeza. The colors get muddy. There's no strongly defined primary focus.

Here is the steps to the Jace Beleren art

ps: can anybody recommend me a good image hosting sites? flickr was good, i love the ability to choose different sizes for your uploads which is very useful for uploading to blogs but i didn't realise the 200 pictures limit, and i am apprehensive in creating another email just for another flickr acc. Photobucket seems mediocre, the uploading is slow, and they dont have any size options... I am currently using my deviantart to link my works, but i want to post steps and scraps, this will definitely take up a lot of pictures and Deviantart doesn't have multiple uploads option, so...I am kinda stuck on these, can anybody recommend something and give some advice? what about u guys, what are you using?

Luffie in 2013: Angels Dragons, Demons and more!

Luffie in 2013: Angels Dragons, Demons and more!

by this stage I've separated the paintings into different layers eg.jace layer 1, sphinx layer 2 etc... This is so that i can make accurate selections on the coloring stage later on, because i tend to flatten the finished black and white and color everything on top of it

After the roughs, i made some detailed sketch of the sphinx using pencils, I find some details are hard to do digitally straight away.

Luffie in 2013: Angels Dragons, Demons and more!

Luffie in 2013: Angels Dragons, Demons and more!

Luffie in 2013: Angels Dragons, Demons and more!

I used "color" mode on photoshop for first layer of coloring in order not to disrupt the values, but i find it tends to produce a muddy look, so i i always add a mix of overlays and additional color layers on top of it, plus some opaque layer for additional paint overs.

Its not a very detailed explanation but i hope it does sate your curiosity and you learn something from it, cheers!

Just a little something I did for fun exercise But honestly, I was surprised, this little legend was harder to tackle than my evangelion piece! -___-.... perhaps nx time I should approach it with a looser style.... anyway I hope you love Protoman!

Another fan art to the addition, this time its Kuroro Lucifer/Chrollo Lucifer from HunterxHunter, fans of the manga will definitely digg this (Fun Fun cloak and Bandit's Secret all included!)

My method of working usually involves creating a detailed piece in black and white and adding color later on, but i realize adding color through transparency layers is a tricky thing. Using "color" mode in photoshop requires many trial and error or it will make everything muddy, using overlays mess up the values, so do any of you guys have a good suggestion? Any set of standard operation procedure? Any help would be appreciated
