    Plasma Gun Concepts

Oookay, so here are the thumbnails for a plasma gun I'm making for a 2D shooter. Tried to keep it from looking overly alien.
Any critique would be appreciated, though a harsh one is preferred
I'm finding Coro's approach a little bit unintuitive, that is I seem to prefer to work from drawing to shading, not from a dark silhouette into planes, but I haven't drawn nearly enough of these to say for sure.

Okay, the important question here is how are you holding the weapon?

Hey, thanks for the response - yeah I botched the handles pretty bad and thought no one will notice. Point taken, next time I'll throw a layer with some photo reference of people holding rifles to get them right.
Anyway, here's the finished piece. I tried to make the bevels rather extreme, since this is a 2D game I wanted to give it some interest and depth rather than draw everything like in an architectural projection (is this how these are called?). And there will be no 3D model, so yeah.
So yeah, walk over me about every mistake. That's what's this forum for.

Your plasma gun's a bit stiff. Are you planning on it being fired from the shoulder or the hip? Adjust the stock design accordingly. My advice is to examine the M240 and the M249 SAW for ideas.

Even though I like the first design, I have to agree with Falchion on the supposedly final product.

    A few problems -

You can not butt this up against your shoulder for accurate firing. The stock should be shaped to cup the shoulder.

There should be a grip further up the barrel.

There's no sight on the barrel.

The power cables hanging from the barrel would constantly be getting snagged on things and pulling out.

Thanks everybody for the comments, I really appreciate them!
I should've told you that this was actually meant to be somewhat unpractical and just cool looking (and what's more cool than buncha cables danglin'?), than realistic (I mean, this is a plasma rifle. For a game where players run on ceilings, walls etc.). BUT! That'd sound like a weak excuse. So I'm not telling this!
Anyways, thanks very much for the input, and you'll see me around pretty soon with another over-the-top gun.

You mentioned about the proportions early and that anime artists are usually very adept at this. Are there actually any books or online tutorials to learn from as this is something that i find really difficult!
