I'm very new to digital painting so this was a lot of fun for me.

I'd like to see some color on this if that's feesable.

    And the water takes hold,
Fills his lungs and crushes his body.
He sees like he's never seen before.
    He is light in water.

yeah i guess your right given the uniformity of the "ink" and how clean the whole thing is. i just assumed it was ink given its similarity to stuff by becky cloonan and others who have that heavy brush style.

Dave, that blurring looks awesome... kind of looks like heat waves or something.

Anyhow, I thought I'd try to color my own picture (posted above)... results:

    And the water takes hold,
Fills his lungs and crushes his body.
He sees like he's never seen before.
    He is light in water.

    *Pops his head in*

Foolanaki, The burn and dodge tool ... doesn't really know much about color theory. I think it has some limited uses with photography but doesn't really hit home for what we do you know? Obviously something it does is right as it looks "good" to your eye, so trust your eye and learn what looks good and what doesn't look good. Use the tool to learn for now but see if you can understand what happens to colors when you use it and analyze that; break free from it as soon as your ready! Cheers dude, I like the color choices, nice and vibrant. I'd like to see you think a bit more about the form things take, break things into larger and simpler shapes in your mind, see where your light source would hit them and where it would block them.

    *pops head back out*

*p.s. nice to see this thread alive and kicking... I should really get back in here soon...*

i liked the piece enough when i thought it was done by hand but 100% ps is damned impressive. i havent tried using photoshop for anything other than design and coloring but i can't imagine that actually drawing with it is terribly easy. any tips?

    anyone else for that matter?

i dunno i get a tablet. put it on regular brush. do a comp layer which I keep at low opacity to make sure everything is OK. then 100% opacity layer over it for the actual lines. ctrl+z if line is terrible, erase the line a bit if it is just OK, and leave it if it's fine. pretty much like regular ink as far as putting it down goes.

DormantWalker - the coloring technique (and color choices) you used made me instantly flash back to the He-Man cartoon. The character looks like she would have fit right into the show. I liked it.

cool on the last one. tattoos are a good touch and just what i was thinking for the char. the part of her thigh with the straps, however, are bare skin. conversely, the strap of her shoulderpad is not skin. i think you captured the same mood i was looking for, though (except the redhead part hehe)

    Curious:

In the rules Sammy set out on this thread he never said anything about just posting line-art you find on the web (without consent) and i've noticed a few people who have posted pieces (in this thread) they have colored without the consent of the artist...

I dunno if that counts as stealing art if your just coloring it for a forums sake... anyone have any objections?

It might liven this thread up to have some wild and crazy lines thrown in here. I dunno just a thought, if anyones in absolute objection of it I won't give it a second thought.

Dormant Walker: I'd say that's probably not a good idea, you should never work with somebody else's art without permission. I'd be a bit annoyed if somebody was showcasing my stuff somewhere without asking me first. As long as they asked first, I'd be fine though

Luxun: nice one mate, this is a very delicately handled colouring job. You even avoided the problem I first had when I coloured this, where I didn't make it clear enough where the arms are. You should definitely feel free to colour more of my lines!

Foolanaki: Keep at it mate. It's worth avoiding the shortcuts such as dodge/burn as because everybody who has spent time colouring can see it a mile off, and it detracts from your ability. You've obviously got some knowledge about colouring, so don't be afraid to show it off!

rustylynn: That's your first attempt colouring? Great start! I'm honoured you picked my image to start you off.

pogy366: Cool, like the colour scheme here. Maybe in your future efforts try for some stronger shading, it'll make your work look really dramatic. Keep at it, you're doing well.

Spacey & dischord: Good work on Evildisco's lovely lines!

Dormant Walker: Nice pallette choices. More please!

    And speaking of more colouring...Tom?

I see people colouring sketches/lines in other people's sketchbooks, and I've never seen any artist object to it. However, I wouldn't take lines from a work in progress. It seems a bit rude to finish someone else's picture before they do.

As for stealing art... the artist should see it as a compliment. Not as theft.

This thread needs more lines, so go ahead and toss us a few good lines if you find any.

OMG! INVISIBLE TEXT! ... and a future sketchbook will maybe be linked soon.

Hey guys, life is busy as always so I still can't join in.

However on the topic of using other peoples lines without their permission or even knowledge; it's wrong.

Stealing art as a compliment not theft? Dischord mate, come on!

If you need more lines, of which there are plenty on this page alone that haven't been done, you could go back into the 36 other pages and even the first coloring book, or! If there are lines you want to color that you've seen elsewhere simply ask the artist permission to post them here, I'm sure most of them will not only be more than happy to do so but they might join in, or even post more lines.

    Cheers guys, keep it up!

I used to do these on the PA:A -forum, but it's been a while. Maybe that's why I got lazy and just went with the main character. Art by DaveTheOriginal.

    Hey dudez, been a while.
Got some goodies for you lot.
Not a 100% sure if it will lend itself to be colored in a standard way but have at it if you want.

Seth1: Pretty decent, a little muddy on some areas, the face is the weakest spot imo.
    Keep at it.
