    Netridelium's Sketchbook

PLEASE GO TO THE LAST PAGE FOR UPDATES

I'm from Murmansk, Russia, the biggest town behind the Polar circle with polar nights (it is dark from morning till night in winter 2 Dec - 11 Jan) and polar days (the sun shines all the night in summer) which is located at the edge of Kolar Peninsular. Polar days are really good inspiration as well as landscapes on small mountains called sopki.

In this thread I will post my sketches and finished works till I feel they are ready for the "It's finally finished" Category.

Your advice and critique are welcome!

Very nice landscapes, liking how you handled the light in the ones you did in grayscale.

    Exon needs your critique!

Thank you for comments. Regarding characters for the moment I intend to develop environment drawing skills and recreate old characters and creatures.

Concept for the Temple of Netri race, old idea in a new vision. But I am not satisfied with this one, so probably there will be more variations.

Looking good so far. I especially like your value sketches. I'd recommend you go a little heavier on the texture. Rough things up a bit.

Really good advice, Traveler! I will try to use more hard brushes for detailing and overall process.

Here are some of thumbnails which I draw using a ballpoint pen to boost imagination. It really helps to invent more interesting forms.

Your last value sketch looks pretty good. I see you added some noise at the end which helps to get rid of the ultra smooth digital look; but I think you'll get even better results if you create or download some custom texture brushes and use those during the painting stage.

Your pen thumbnails are also looking good. Pen can be tough because there isn't much room for making mistakes. Great job on those. If you can afford it I'd also recommend downloading Andrew Jones thumbnail tutorial. Really good ideas in there.

Concept for BFME III project. The most difficult was to find interesting composition and fulfill the task - scene depicting impending battle with panic in the LOTR world.
I'm not completely satisfied as there are much to do but anyway it's just a concept not a finished work.

I used textures, various nature brushes and pictures from Internet to finish the work in color.

These are some thumbnail sketches I've done during my summer vocations. I was inspired by the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series books written by Russian authors and some loose ideas
