The Book of Bernie
Hey Guys!
I've been checking out this site for the longest time but have never posted anything before. However it looks like that all changes right now! It has been encouraging to go through the sketchbooks here and see how many artists have been putting in the mileage and have gotten better and better.
I've been working in the gaming industry for over 6+ years now(currently at Blizzard) and I have to sadly admit that I have been pretty lazy with developing my art skills ever since I got a job. But that also changes NOW!
Starting this new year I'm determined to get back in to learning mode and have decided to post sketches and studies of various subjects I'm interested in as often as possible.
Well here it goes...!

Howdy Bernie
Nice start to a sketchbook that I am looking forward to being continued. I love “Boss” cats. If there’s one subject an artist can render that shows power it’s that of a lion, tiger or panther. These are excellent renditions! Looking good, wanting to see more of your work in the future.

Woah, these are awesome. Very dynamic and loose - they remind me of some gesture sketches made by animators.

6 years in blizzard! Show us your old works and sketches please!!!
Sorry for my english.

Iridyse-Hey thanks for the encouragement! More will be coming as I plan on posting daily. =)
Billis-Yea let's work hard Billy. You by yourself are an inspiration to me haha =P
OmertA-Hey I'm glad you noticed the energy in some of my drawings. I'm trying to work on that. Thanks!
avocado-Thanks for the encouragement! I like avocados!
Lyndsay Harper-Thanks for pushing me! I will! =)
CocaTertoka-Lions are powerful animals! They're fun to draw!
stormrider85- your waiting ends now! =)
Bruce Pluto-You're totally right! Observing the confidence and power that these beasts possess and trying to visualize that on paper is challenging! Thanks for the encouragement Bruce!
MrHuffer-Thanks! I'm definitely trying to work on being more loose and fluid in my drawings. Naturally my drawings end up being stiff so I'm working on that.
toseg- Haha Actually it has been 3.5 years. I was working at 2 other game studios before then. Soon I will post some of the work that I've done at Blizzard, so please be patient. =)
Here's some paintings I did after doing the lion sketches above. Press on!

-
-
oh wow I love both your sketches and your paintings!! ff Im so jealous of your knowledge of anatomy, these lions look great - they're poses look so natural and fluid (: Great work, I cant wait to see more!

Tee_- Thanks! Will do.
jeremyg0rd0n-Thanks!!
RickyS- Thanks! I do like painting more, but I need to work on my drawings...=)
Bellachime- Thank you. Actually I don't know much about the anatomy of lions. I really need to sit down and study the muscles since they're different from humans.
Traveler-You will definitely see more. I love drawing animals!
Here are some studies of lambs I did over the weekend. I like the contrast of the meek gentle nature of a lamb compared to the powerful lions.

Hey Bernie! You got some really lovely stuff!
I'm loving the lions and the lamb, the last 2 lion paintings got such great weight in their poses, the lions look so big and heavy - just like they are in real life. Great job! I will check this sketchbook out in the future aswell.

-
ooooh yeessss, lovely, lovely, lovely colors!
-
-
I like your name, and I like your work. Good day!
-
-
love the lion king~ i am Leo. so love your stuffs,

Haaa~ I love those lion sketches. The gestural ones really get the pose and power of the animals across. The paintings of them look great too. Your painting style reminds me a lot of Leyendecker.
Something is bothering me about the lambs, though. It's a little thing but I think it's because lambs have kinky hair on their bodies, and it's drawn in with straight lines? They still look great, I'm just splitting hairs (Har har)
I can't wait to see more. Keep sharpening those tools!

Nice animal studies. Let's see more personal work.

The lamb with the orange ground is really outstanding. Very striking colors; and the visible sketch lines around his feet, layered over with blended flats and topped off with the expressive highlight fluff combine to make one great image. Impressive.

Great stuff, anything specific you can tell us that you worked on in blizzard?
