Your sketchbook is so inspiring, I am going to have to follow the rest and nag about a process vid or shots of how you work. Really interesting style! I just made space for you in my inspiration folder!
btw this is Photoshop right? Do you only use PS or Painter too?

Mr. Kang those studies are absolutly beautiful. I love how you render them, there is so much life in those. And the V-day gift is realy cool too, your wife must have been happy.

Hive_minD- Hey I'm glad my work can inspire you. =) and yes you're right, this is Photoshop. When I started digital painting, I start on Painter, but later moved on to using PS. Just recently I've been thinking about trying Painter again so we'll see. =)
Fetsch- Hey Thanks for the encouraging compliments! and yes my wife was happy about the painting. =)
-Well here's several images to show how I do my animal studies. This may not have been the greatest image to show my process but it's better early than never I guess. =P I will do more in the future. For now I hope this helps a bit.
1- Super rough sketching and block in of major silhouette with mid tone color/value.
2- Painting in darks and shadows and refining shapes.
3-On a multiply layer, I add mid tone colors for the purpose of showing where the light is hitting and to create color variations that I will use as a rough palette that I will color pick from.
4-I use lighter colors from the palette to refine forms and shapes. At this stage I would also continue adding more color in areas that are cool or warm.
5-This is the final image, where I paint in highlights and the darkest darks to refine and sharpen the image.

Awesome, I was quite the same. Started with painter, but now I find myself working more and more in PS. Though I am currently running them both next to each other, going back and forth. Working for me so far
Thanks for the step by step. Great too look at
As is your art always.

Thanks so much for the process post. Although there are general patterns for working up a painting it's always nice to see the little nuances in different individual's approach.

The love-birds, wolves and the tortoise are exellent as usual!

This is a little- well a lot- delayed, but I used to own an arabian. I recognized the dished face & delicate build

I like the pen and pencil sketches. The cast drawing is much more eyecandy than the coloured digital stuff. Fortunately you don't loose your lines in the digital stuff. Keep on posting!

bernie, your studies are gorgeous! that wolf breakdown melted my eyes! i really struggle with that last pass in my drawings. my attempts tend to fail and i result to cheeseball textures.
