go back and look at one of the old ones...you will see the poll is made with a small icon usually a chunk out of the larger image

saved in a separate file and host on some outside image host, such as image shack or photobucket.

I'm in. Chaos seems to be reading my mind when it comes to cool environments to paint!

Instead of doing lots of thumbs I liked the first one so went with it. Here it is at varying stages, the bottom right being the latest.

Next wip. Working on the vines on the right. I am going to try and really nail the tonal values before I go anywhere near colour this time.

I was going to enter one for last week but ran out of time, so hopefully I can finish this one.

I'm going for a palace built on a mountain that was destroyed by a landslide. Will try and do a bit more tomorrow.

Nice work . I like the lush vegetation.
It seems that you letting the stair go down into water. I think that can bee cool.

    Zapp!
Nice colours. Dramatic with the steep hillside.

I think I'll go diving this time.
Crete seem to be a pleasant.

I did not define the age era or planet of the palace, intentionally..... up to you.

Thanks for the support guys. Producing good stuff yourselves. Looking forward to seeing more!
I got inspired by the Red pillars so used that when I started adding colour. It is still pretty basic, lots of detailing to do but you get the idea.

Here's a new WIP. So fun to add in fishes. Maybe they distract the scene.

hhmmm im feeling a little confusion here.. I said "Palace" not "Castle"

    Palace n.

    1. The official residence of a royal personage.
    2. Chiefly British. The official residence of a high dignitary, such as a bishop or archbishop.
    3.
    1. A large or splendid residence.
    2. A large, often gaudily ornate building used for entertainment or exhibitions.

    cas·tle (ksl)
    n.
    1.
    a. A large fortified building or group of buildings with thick walls, usually dominating the surrounding country.
    b. A fortified stronghold converted to residential use.
    c. A large ornate building similar to or resembling a fortified stronghold.
    2. A place of privacy, security, or refuge.

Im not goign to dump anyones image because they didn't follow the breif... but as AD if I were really looking for a palace I would be dis appointed... the salient poins are the ornate ness and the lack of, or lesser fortifications.

This what I got so far, dont know if I want to change it that much, may add a little bit more detail and/or make it more clear whats below the watersurface and whats over it.

    C&C very welcome

    Thinking about this challenge

I am new to the process, so I have a few questions, I apologize if they seem dumb, but I won't get the answers if I don't ask.

My first question was on the leeway between palace and castle, which seems to have been covered. There was some historical crossover at times, but the guidelines given by chaosrocks basically covers it.

Secondly, deals with the making of the frame. Typically, what software is normally used to frame the work thusly? I am a bit of an artistic luddite, forgive me.

I assume the palace at Knossos is just an example. (I know, never assume) So we have the luxury to use whatever references we desire?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Ok, I think I'm mostly finished with this now, but I might try and add to it if I get more time later this week. I tried to make it look a bit more like a palace, so hopefully it does.

@Andrew - I use photoshop to make a frame - just extend the canvas a bit further than your painting and change the colour
